while the lakes are in the Central Valley, the view goes out to the coast, and also to the Sierra Crest...
this is the spectacular view point at the Williams Peak fire lookout (constructed in 1935 and basically being left to rot).
From the Coast Range horizon across the Central Valley
In the foreground is Lake McClure, on the right side of the photo, Don Pedro Reservoir, the two lakes in the mid-ground are just east of Waterford (unnamed on Google Earth)...
The ridge under the Moon is Volpe Ridge, and the Sun set near Mount Vaca...
To the Sierra Crest (including a little valley we all know)

Uh, thanks, Ed. Kind of hard to tell exactly which way your camera was pointed...I was guessing. At any rate, it's a spectacle. :0)
