hey there say, all...
oops, edit: should be
find and name this DANCE-ON-THE-PORCH song...
(forgot the hyphens, in my haste) :))
any old timers, like me, here, ?
well, some older, i reckon, ;)
HERE IS THE CHORE:
1--WATCH, OR HAVE A GREAT MUSICAL MEMORY, FOR 1933:
the movie, "monkey business" with the marx brothers...
2--HAVE FUN, of course...
3--BUT--here is the CATCH:
what, dear folks, please,
IS THE SONG that groucho marx is
dancing with thelma todd, too--out on the porch, at heltons' party???
a--THEY ARE DOING AN AMERICAN style tango, not the original tango of tango-bar type,...
b--it sounds like a very regal, drawn out waltz, very strong upbeat,
cool song!
c--she is wearing a black evening dress, and her character name is lucille
briggs, if this will help...
d--he was just declared something like this--could have something to do with the song, or not... just don't know:
"my regiment leaves at dawn!" and later, "my regiment can leave without me"
(which was great, comedy, as he spoke it, of course)
reward: a dreamcatcher or painting (small one) or pair of earrings, for your FIND, as to this great mystery, as:
i want to find the music for to play on my ol' paino, :)
thanks guys... and, yeah, this contest COULD go on for near forever...
so i reckon i will bump it every week, :)

hey there say, cosmic... thanks for trying... well--the boat
got to where they were going, :)
stowaways, made land-fall, ;)
but nope--was none of those songs...
i found those, and the page, and they did not list the party-waltz thing...
however, i DID find a transcript for the movie, but where they danced on the porch, at the party, the transcript just said:
(added instrumental) and that was it, :(
also, could NOT find anything of this on youtube...
i did see a picture and article of his character and thelma's,
sitting ON that porch, talking, either before or after the dance...
the party was in the house, BUT-- the dance, once again, as on ship, was a
spur of the moment... :)

Fox trot, ma'am?[Click to View YouTube Video]I'M LEADING!!
I'm shaddokidding!!
I think it's "YOU BROUGHT A NEW KIND OF LOVE TO ME."
Very porchy stuff.
"Your Honor, I rest my case, but it'll have to go in the garage all night."

hey there say, nope... :)
a waltz... starts out with a horn, like a regiment horn...
kind of sounds like a straus type waltz, but slower and drawn out, with good
dips in the tempo...
:)
you have GOT to find the part in the movie, where they are
ON the porch...
does anyone have it?
i have the dvd... can you watch it on line???

But what part was Harpo singing when they sang Sweet Adeline in the first part of the movie when they are looking for the stowaways? That's one you'll never get.
And how in heck were they playing dice when they were in four separate barrels?
I watched a five-minute preview online...
Still searching, researching, and laughing...

hey there say, anita514...
i am trying to find a song.. it seems to be a waltz... it is a very neat spunky little thing, and i want to play it on the piano, if i can ever find the name of it, and some sheet music...
you'd have to see this marx brothers movie, MONKEY BUSINESS to know
what i am talking about, :)
i'd need some of us ol' old timers to hear that music,
OUT on the garden porch (while a party is going on inside)
to SEE if they remember such a song... and would know what it is
called... :(
say--and the other 'what am i talking about' is this:
i KEEP finding my own supertopo THREAD in all the online searches
that i DO--thus, ending up right back here and not finding any info...
:O
and then, as to 'what are you talking about' say, i now move over
to this: mouse's mouse-talk:
say, mouse,
i have no clue or idea what you are talking about here, :O
but it sure sounds like you are having fun, :)
as an edit now: also, as to this? did you mean money business or monkey business to watch free??
well:
happy god bless to all, i need to go to sleep...
as:
a 'taco' gal here is going to help one of my dear friends, tomorrow,
(well, today) get the LAST PART OF HER shelf miracle done...
wow, is all i can say!!!
wow--this is really wonderful!!

hey there say, mouse...
praying for the box to manifest a LOT easier and FASTER
than this illusive song, has...
oh my... :(
but, as with the waltzes:
we must hold our heads up, regal and smile...
'til the sun rises...
ooopps, i mean:
'til the box a RISES... ;)

hey there say, kunlun_shan
wow!!!
okay, it is at the END part... find as far as the party...
there is a costume ball going on...
you will see the outdoor balcony scene with grouco meowing like
a CAT when he sees lucille coming...
they will both be wearing BLACK, just like the photo
that mouse posted just above...
so i'd say just past half way????
definately OFF OF THE BOAT...
wow, the trail is breaking through!
thanks with all my heart... :)
wow--so silly how us humans can get over little bits of
MUSIC huh, :)
but music, in proper ways, makes us light and happy in spirit!

hey there say, kunlun_shan...
here you go:
- Where's your wife, Lucille? - Would you...
Someone's coming. I'll be back.
Be back next Thursday, and bring a specimen of your handwriting.
And, above all, don't worry.
[lmitating cat meowing]
What brought you here?
It's midsummer madness. The music is in my temples...
the hot blood of youth. Come, Kapellmeister. Let the violas throb.
My regiment leaves at dawn.
[Slow-paced lively instrumental music]
I guess my regiment can go without me.
i tried looking at the words and before that, LISTENING, on the cd,
to see if THERE MIGHT BE CLUES as to the music MATCHING anything they said... but did not work, for me... if there is, i missed it...
though, they HAVE USED STRAUSS in two other marx brothers' movies...
:)
it sounded like simple waltz, though with a bit of 'fanfare' kind of spunking it up... it was fun...
but it could be any ol' kind of song, as well...
(since they DID not credit it, like they did with other songs, i was
assuming it was old classic, from way back)

Hi Neebee!
A little snooping lead me to the movie soundtracks from Cocoanuts and Monkey Business on Amazon. I'm guessing that "Main Title [From Monkey Business]" is the start of the songs from that movie and you can deduce which sing you are looking for by the sequence in the movie. Could be that it was just a little ditty that they worked up for the movie. Hope this helps!

hey there say, edge...
oh my, thanks... yep, i tried all that...
say, the music is where the 'incidental music' notation is...
:)
or, wait... it is where the 'more incidental music' notation is,
i think???
say, but now, i DID see this but no more:
at the opening scene? of the PARTY there, there was a note saying that
the BAND (inside, not at the porch, later) was playing a song
called HO HUM... so something NEW at least, surfaced in one of my searches, late last night-into-morning...
(will go and read about it when i can--was doing my christmas cards now) ... :)
but not--the 'incidental' fun song..
but--we are hot on our heels to to dancing along with it,
i now have hope!
thanks so much, edge and all!

hey there, say...
THIS IS NOT THE SONG that they were dancing to...
BUT is an interesting note that i found:
as to the 'ho hum' THAT WAS SAID to be played by inside band
(i will play the ring tone and then see if it matches the band)
WELL, CAN'T get the ring tone to work, :(
well, interesting,...this is the same gal that wrote:
tip toe through the tulips...
many of us have heard that song used in various ways:
Artist: Annette Hanshaw lyrics

Who's that knocking at my door? lyrics
Happy Days Are Here Again lyrics
We Just Couldn't Say Good-bye lyrics

What Wouldn't I Do For That Man? lyrics
Little White Lies lyrics
Lyrics to Ho Hum! :
Good-bye to winter
I'll see you next year
Hello to Springtime
Gee, I am glad your here
Listen you fliver
Get yourself outside
Come on my sweetheart
Take me for a ride!
Ho hum, spring is here now
Ho hum, skies are very clear now
Ho hum, love is near now for you and me
Ho hum, april showers
Ho hum,lots of pretty flowers
Ho hum, happy hours
For you and me
All the world is sweet once again
Heaven is at my feet once again
Ho hum, lazy weather
Ho hum, Feeling like a feather
Ho hum, We're together
And so, Ho Hum!
Seranding,Ocean Wading,Orange-ading
Ho hum!
Street musicians, great ambitions
Good conditions
Ho Hum!
also, as to the TANGO type song, that groucho and thelma
danced to, on the boat--it is NOT mentioned by name, either
in any credits...
NOR is THE WALTZ type one, that i am interested, from
the party OUT ON THE BACKYARD porch...
they may just be 'stock' use music, but still:
it MUST have come from somewhere... :)
if no credit is given, i still assume it is in the
public-use realm??? or old time classic composers???
:)
wow, hee hee, maybe this is a 'first ascent' climb, ;))
WOW, extra note:
that page, had links to this gal, too, :)

Here is the part of the show where we all danz und zing!
It's worth noting that monkeys are not apes, only imitate their more evolved "betters." Ha! Monkeys are some of the sliest creatures known to man. They did not call it Monkey Business for no reason, even though looking at it there is no plot--maybe they were tired of monkeying around trying to tie in the divergences.
It's like the "story" is wandering around like an old GPA slab route.
The dancing's good, though.
Here is a post from a Supertopo ghost.
GRIEG being dead we may speak of him and his art.
Grieg being dead we can talk about whether he was any good or not.
Grieg being with Ibsen, Björnson, Lief Ericson and the rest,
Grieg being dead does not care a hell's hoot what we say.
Morning, Spring, Anitra's Dance,
He dreams them at the doors of new stars.
