The black market dollars are bringing even more. People are getting desperate
with almost 30% inflation. Some small B&B's will only accept cash dollars.

Black market dollars are about 1:12, however I seriously doubt you can get a coffee with media lunas in a place like the Recoleta for less than 40 pesos. I would verify this on internet, except no one in Argentina puts prices in internet, because with 40% annual inflation the prices go up almost daily. Last time I went to Buenos Aires, about a year ago, to renew my daughter's passport, we ate at that place in your picture and spent about 500 pesos for a light lunch (three people). The bus tickets from Balcarce cost me more than the tickets for the bullet train from Paris to Brussels, that I bought last February. In spite of a 100% devaluation since 2012, things are not very cheap in Argentina (but the black market dollar does help tourists).

PS: here is an article from "La Nación" that says the price of a small coffee (which is very small, see picture) and no media lunas in La Biela in January 2013 costs between 15 and 18 pesos. Since there has been a major devaluation and about 60% inflation since the article was published, that means a small coffee would probably cost about 25 pesos. Add media lunas and my estimate of 40 pesos should be about right (a larger coffee with milk would be more expensive).

Italian Nicola Rizzoli will referee the final. He hit a trifecta with Argentina, refereeing their third match in this cup. He did Argentina-Belgium and Argentina-Ghana in the group stage. He also did Spain-Netherlands.

This makes a UEFA ref for every match Argentina played against a Euro team, and the third Argentina final refereed by an Italian referee.

Most notably, an Italian ref did the 1978 final when Argentina beat The dutch on 2 Mario Kempes goals.

I'll be rooting for Argentina tomorrow mainly because I want Messi to succeed. IMO, Messi is an infinitely better role model for Argentine youth than Maradona.

@tuolumne_tradster - sounds like someone wants to change some foundational beliefs for our friends to the south... I see your point and agree, though I had not thought about this kind of change (the Maradona angle) taking place for some time after Messi ends his game.
I too am hopeful for an Argentina win. I just think it would be good for the nation's people.
But I fear that the Germans will have a tight game to play against Argentina.

Jingy: my only point really is that although Maradona was one of the greatest futbol players of all time, his legacy will always be tainted by this...

IMO, the modern day Maradona is Luis Suarez. Messi is a great player and deserves the same respect as Maradona.

Edit:

Wow, the Brazil vs Netherlands game did not start off well for the hosts.

TT - agreed. There does seem to be a bit of dissonance in that Maradona goal.

Not sure I can agree on that Suarez statement.... That guy's a cannibal on the field in front of cameras... To me that's just not true to the game.

For those of you wondering...

If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.

Sheesh. Why would a defender head the ball to the 12 yard spot?

Perfect summation of Brasil's woes.

Wow, more shoddy defending by Brasil. 9 goals in 105 minutes? Yikes!

I must say that throughout these games I've enjoyed these announcers,
Champion and Robson, the most. Robson really gives an insightful and honest
analysis. Macca is no less honest but not as eloquent. I've also really
enjoyed Efan Ekoku and Alejandro Moreno.

Who does 3rd and 4th places matter to again?

Too bad the teams playing this match don't want to be here. They consider it a shame rather than an honor to be disputing their ultimate ranking. Would way rather see two teams who want it. Just ask any of those teams who are already back home if they'd like to play another game on the World Cup stage?

That ship has now sailed. Brasil is just a bad team defensively and offensively without Neymar.

They gave up two sitters and a stupid PK.

While I don't know a lot about soccer, I have enjoyed this world cup. I do have a thought. Given that we only do this every four years, why not make the final two out of three?

That Algerian ref was a disgrace, not that it really mattered.

Wow, see all the Brasilians applauding the Dutch?

Reilly: agree RE Efan Ekoku...very intelligent and articulate. Also liked hearing from van Nistelrooy & Ballach. I really didn't like Taylor Twellman.

Lorenzo: I agree, this Brasilian team just didn't come close to their predecessors. I was just feeling sorry for them. Brasil, the 2nd dynasty to collapse during this WC.

What do you think...Arjen Robben = MVP?

Also, what about allowing additional substitutes if the game goes into 2 15-min overtimes?
