I love the bit at 0:22 where he catches his ice tool on the strap on his skis.

Tom, any chance your arm could be twisted into doing a 'from the vaults' slideshow? Been hearing about the Redline for years and would love to see the show in person.

//Craig!

I agree, "it's a good sign of their character and coolness."

Coming from you, who has skied with the best, I'm glad to see their joy of skiing in those mtns.

What a thing to see your daughter on the slopes!!! She will be putting you through your paces soon enough!!

Tom... you're right, about my daughter putting me through the paces, but it happened already, she's a tough one to keep up with these days. I remember when she was about 10 (she's 14 now) I would ski down and have her follow me, up until then I would get to the bottom of the run and have time to watch her skiing. This one day, the conditions were perfect for some high speed cruising and so I opened it up ripped off a screaming run. When I stopped I thought she would be about half way up the run, but she was right on my tail, which caught me by complete surprise, as I couldn't comprehend my daughter skiing that fast. Accepting the fact that she was on her way to high speeds, I told her what to do if she ever went down at that speed and that was it, she was on her own from then on...

Craig

What was your advice to her about going down at speed?

Coming from someone who ran into the triple digits!!!

Tom,

I just told her that when she goes down at the high speeds the main thing to focus on is to stay relaxed and try to keep the skis and hands from making contact with the snow... as anything that catches the snow surface at high speed falls normally rips apart anything its attached too, like knees, wrists, elbows shoulder, neck, etc. obviously this advice is for a high speed slider type fall. If you blow up at impact all you can do is relax so when your body is getting torn apart, you go with it instead of resisting it and hopefully the damage won't be as bad as it would have been if you were tight and resisted the forces pulling your body apart. In most cases, high speeds crashes happen so fast that you don't have time to tense up, which is good... as it's the last thing you want to do.

Here's two good friends of mine Jerome Ruby and the late Dede Rhem taking it to another level on the first descent of Le Triolet. I can't get the pics any bigger, but if you click on them, you can zoom in on the pic. this is as wild as it gets.

Here's an article on this, the pics are better in it as well...

Been saving this for a free moment. Only took me six months!

French guys... love their spirit and sense of humor.

That shitf*#k conditions video was excellent too. I'll ski and enjoy anything even junk. Those guys ski as a ugly as I do, but on gnarlier terrain. I can relate!

Thanks for the share!

Wow! Ironic that he pans the rocky face to show his go pro audience, then proceeds to find a way to fall off it. Backwards!

Glad he wasn't a snowboarder since that would would have spawned more jokes about us. :)
