Boston is a great city to live in. Lot's of great food, music and sports. The weather in February may make you want to kill yourself. After 10 years there I moved to sunny California and never looked back...
But the climbing in and around is quite wonderful. There is a huge variety and as Seamstress said, New England is so small that you can get several states away on a weekend trip.

If you decide to move there, Ben, I have a second edition copy of Steve Hendrick's "Climbing in Eastern Massachusetts" 1976 that I'd be willing to sell. It will give you the historical perspective of places like Quincy Quarries, Peabody Boulders, Hammond Pond, Crow Hill and even Kenmore Square buildering (which probably doesn't exist anymore). PM me if you're interested.

Ben,
You can climb all winter on the Traprock near Hartford/Meriden, CT - a 2 hour drive from Boston (good for day trips). All it takes is a sunny day.

I'm in central NH, I'm always down to go do something.

Lots and lots of climbing around here.

Everything from drive up sport crags to backcountry adventure routes. Bring DEET.

A bit of thread necromancy here, but I wanted to give a very belated but sincere "Thanks!" to everyone who weighed in on my OP question, especially those who made kind offers to show me around.

Nearly a year down the track, I'm taking a job in Portland instead (though for reasons job-related rather than down to the climbing potential of each place).

Still hope to make it over to the East coast for some climbing some day; should be feasible given even in Oregon I'll be based much closer than I am currently.

Thanks again,

Ben
