thanks for the photos. i was sad to miss another facelift, but bouldering in fontainebleu kicks ass, and now i am getting ready to cycle to and through the alps!
did anyone pick up the trash under the cables? it looks cold in the pictures, lots of down. it makes me feel not that bad about the rain jacket i have on now to get through the drizzle.
glad it was fun. keep the pictures coming.

Your pictures of the River, Hamersorethumb, resembles much of my view on Friday. Most of the areas above the river had been cleaned already, but I was able to extract some trash that was trapped in snags and narrows in the river itself. I should have taken a golf ball retriever with me, but its lack gave me an excuse to do some rock-hopping and wading. With the water so low, I suspect some of that trash had been there for more than one season.

If anyone found a key to a 1991 BMW 525i somewhere between the Clark's Bridge and the Swinging Bridge, it's mine. I lost it in 1996 when I forgot that I had it in my pocket. That car was the last new one I bought. I kept it until 2008, despite being one key short.

After thinking about climbing with Fattrad, because he is a serious

"Right couloir."
Then I would say,

No, "Wait," I then say. "Let's see if we can even stay here tonight. Otherwise, let's still keep to the left arete."

Now safely ensconced in SB. Bus/train/bus went on schedule. Mike, Tom, Glee, Madbolter, and I spent time on 41. That's a bloody long road! Met a local gassing his car in Wawona. He said to me, "Pretty clean here isn't it?" I had not seen such clean roads since the War. Cool!

On 41 we pulled a 200# bumper up to the road with the idea of loading in the car later. When we got back someone had stolen it!

People are stealing trash now. Next question is, Do we have to stand guard over even the poop bags."

The log flames are yellow-greenish.
4 we have no blues at Yellow Pines.
Recumbent coals glow *INCANDESCENT,*
Pulsing red like flashing signs.

Snoring sleepers fill this campground.
One saws his bass notes loud and clear.
Recumbent tenor is *INTERMITTENT,*
Snorting and wheezing and too damned near!

Its left to me to quell the blaze,
Spread out the coals and remnants of the log.
I finish that, then BLAZE ONE myself,
And walk off in a fog.

Hey mouse! The unidentified celebrant is Trundlebum. He has a great singing voice and was doing Bonnie Raitt proud. His niece came up to me and asked if her uncle could jam with us. I really liked his style.

EDIT ecxellent photo of our saturday jam, Paul Martzen. Not sure if we met but I'd like to share that photo with my jamming buddies, Rick and Annie Cashner if that's ok with you.

EDIT EDIT. mouse blew .01! Better than blowin' chunks.

I was happy despite my lack of sleep. Even the kid was happy despite not sleeping either because all you guys ROCK. Between the Chocolate pancakes, awesome kids to play with, beautiful women to hold him, helpers to get my tent up and down without ignoring/losing the kid, the meatfest and yeah... Being in Yosemite. All is good. Now if I can just train the kiddo to "stay" in a sleeping bag, half our drama would not exist.

Plus with Bill there... I won't "need" help. I'll get to enjoy your company so much more. Ahh yes... Next year is going to be good. (Well, at least I hope Bill will be there.) If not I am getting a hotel room.

So Big Mike and Sandra and myself, at the back door of the auditorium, our first night at Facelift, encountered Big Mighty and we heard his story of the twenty-eight kegs of new Belgium that had been "lost" temporarily, having been delivered to the El Portal Market instead of the intended DNC warehouse with a huge reefer unit. Skip and I were psyched to meet you and Sandra, Mike!

I also got an early Skully visit in Camp 4.

Meeting Mark Jensen and his family.

Getting a thank you card from Cathy, the sweetest yet most unfortunate of campers in Upper Pines.

Hugs from Ken, Em, George, Doug Robinson, Harrison, Mo, Andy, Nita, Lynne, Gregg, Eric and so many others.

Playing music with friends on Saturday night with Andy, Annie, Rick...

The pictures are all there in my memory, though sadly not via camera.

Singular moments that weave a living cloth of the community...I can replay them over and over.

It sustains, enlivens and endures.

Thank you all.

Not only was it great to see all of you again and play music with some of my favorite people every night; nita and I were super stoked to see our old friend, Bud Keene after he gave his slide show. I had heard some of his stories about his early snowboard descents in the Andes and of his time climbing in Glen Aulin but had never seen the photos.

I didn't know he was part of the team for Gillet's Sea Tomato attempt to Antarctica. It was cool to hear him share his stoke for coaching Shawn White and the women's snowboard teams win the gold.
Also nice to meet his wife and see his son who just finished his third summer working TM Lodge. Hadn't seen him since he was a baby.

I made Bud promise to hang out one night at Yellow Pines next Facelift and play some tunes. He knows a lot of Hendrix covers.

and endless dishwashing from you, Mo, H, and the other Yellow Pine stalwarts.

I was particularly grateful for that effort. I was really dreading the cleanup from the feast on Saturday. While looking for my implements of food destruction, I found Lucky Pink had already washed one, and was washing another with the rest in line. And this after she'd already gone out of her way to make my food prep as easy as possible. She and Harrison were wonderful hosts in Yellow Pines.

Best of all, as Timid's photo shows, I got to meet Dr. F. in person. Just as I expected, he is a great guy, and has already learned the Armenian art of "shishing."

Thanks again to everyone.

Just got back from my road trip
My head is still alittle fuzzy, I haven't yet developed the seething rage up to the level needed to post on the political threads, just give me a couple more days, it's coming.
Just a zen like bliss for now...

It's was great to meet all you Face Lifters!!!
And eat and party. I guess I missed the presentations and slide shows, and alot of other folks, I didn't want to drive to the village from Yellow Pines, oh well.

My ST nemesis- Fattrad and JE were super fun to hang with, and it turns out they are just misinformed liberals at heart.

Other great folks, Nita!, Timid, H., Khanon. Sully, Lucky Pink, Mister E, Doug R. Banoquo, Guido, mouse, Hank Caylor, etc.
I met most of them in the dark Friday night, and had to be reintroduced the next day when it was light out! all those white folks with hats on look the same to me...
Went with Ed H. for the day of trash picking up on Hwy. 41 near the Badger Pass turnoff, we picked up around 30 lbs of trash along with some fresh poopy pants. We worked on some new Cold Fusion devices that we know for sure will work! I will post a progress report soon.

when we met bud in glen aulin, he and lucy co-managed the high sierra camp. staff members, by rotation, were assigned belay duty which amounted to holding the rockcraft book open to the pertainent page according to the task at hand. of course a promise had been extracted to never let go with the brake hand.

so a row to antarctica was the next logical step.

it was my privledge to show him the ropes that summer, culminating with a trip up the west face of the captain.

Her grandfather recently had kidney failure, and is now on dialysis, so I'm glad I was able to spend the evening with the family.

We timed how long it took to transfer 20 pieces. Some of the younger kids had to two hand the trigger action. I was the most impressed of all at what they were able to do,

I got a 22" grabber for the kids but everyone used it. When going for speed the shorter grabber was faster. Next year I will probably set up two stations so people won't have to wait so long.

After eight years of use I have finally had enough grabber failures to support the idea I can fix them, at least a little. Using a drill to take out the pop tights allows them to be completely disassembled.

The latest revelation: When plagued by cups that form a "V" with the vertex at the top. bend the wide outer steel bands so they are straight. If that does not work you have, somehow, buggered up the angle at which the wide bands are bent at the cup.

I also have broken one of the inner narrow bands at the spot weld down inside. So I just broke it down and replaced the spot weld with a pop tight. Good to go!

Today was an interesting day. The Morongo Basin Conservation Assoc. outing over toward Copper Mtn. collected maybe 300 pounds. My palms were still sweating so I went and finished trash removal on Park Blvd between Hwy 62 and the Joshua Basin water tank. So far I have taken off about three quarters of a ton. The remaining stretch up to Alta Loma has few open lots, thankfully. Dumping on open lots is what has slowed me down so much.

Then I went to check and see whether there has been any more dumping in Coyote Hole. Lo and behold there was a dumped 3D television. I considered fixing it till I saw it had two cathode ray tubes and their axes were not parallel. That meant the set could be watched by only one person at a time. As I was preparing to huck it into the truck someone above sang out, "let me help!"

When Ernie got down we loaded it into the truck. I gave him my name and phone number so he could call me as soon as the next delivery shows up. He looked at my name and said, "I know your name. At Facelift did you work on the Cathedral Beach project?" Turns out the two of us had both weighted the same tunnel bar while trying to move a boulder in Yosemite!

It really is a small world!

Thanks to all for sharing your photos.
They all make me smile.
Friends I've made at past Facelifts, met again.
Friends I've known prior to Facelift and gotten to know even better.
Far too many to list.

And new Friends this year;
Paul and Holly, LL, Eric (khanom) and wife, Eric F, Linda J come immediately to mind.
And a few old friends who I saw in passing but didn't get to chat with this year.

Do you mean blind rivets when you say "pop-tights" John?

Anyway, great to see you keeping the spirit alive and diversified.

It only looks like I'm sleeping. I'm actually intent on what Guido is saying next door.

Not really. You got me, Andy.

I gotta get back at the Facelifts. This year for sure! I've been busy!!!

John will be six, so it'll be way easier to bring him out. Look forward to seeing all the regulars, and the ones I've missed. Anastasia, it would be cool to meet you and your boy.

Of course, I'll contribute to Meatfeast duties as well. Prolly tacos again, or something.

Facelifts are too much fun, I need to get back...

That's awesome Blueing... I am actually due with my second in September so... I am unsure if I'll be traveling. If I am Bill will be on Daddy duty, that's for sure. He is muttering that we are still going and all I am going to say is "let's see my Jedi Hubby." He does tend to make the impossible possible.
