Poor guy....he left the fine smell of roasting coffee in beautiful Hood River, Or. to spend a month climbing in Colorado. And what does he get.....RAIN! Check out the Evening News, Mark is in Lyons and Lyons is completely cut off.....bridges and roads out.

Loosen your wallets, helicopters don't come cheap. We simply have to rescue Mark. Okay....i admit it, i have a selfish reason....Mark and i have a date in the Black Canyon next week.

Yep for Mark it could be be a really really little raft.

Ahh screw it.. this is IMPORTANT. Call out the Marines. Hmm does Lyons have oil? Not sure the Marines show up unless there is oil involved.

Is that light the end of the tunnel or a train?

Actually the Coast Guard is on the way here. If they can't get him then perhaps we can organize a rescue. I'm thinking we build a big sling shot and launch him one of Locker's "Inflate a Dates" feathered to a fishing pole. Could work.

Ha! Thanks! Actually, people are being evacuated but it's a women, children, the elderly and sick first. I don't qualify on any of those counts.

I sure do hope I can drive out of here in the next couple of days. I suspect by Saturday or Sunday something will be figured out to get people moving. We don't have running water or gas and can't use the toilet, but we have electricity and Internet, and I have all the dehydrated food for my Yosemite walls in the car. So far so good.

Really, though, not far from here, there is a lot of sadness. People have lost their homes, their businesses and their jobs. I still have everything I came with. I lack only the memories of climbs I didn't do. No big deal. I've made some good friends and I'll be back next year.

I've no doubt that Jim and I will get to climb in the Black next week, it can't rain for that long, can it?

Mark, you can always flush a toilet.

Get a 5 gallon bucket .

Put about 2 gallons of water in the bucket and pour it into the bowl and its just like a flush.

Try it.

One thing you got is plenty of water....

Mark you have become an Oregonian and obviously have taken that wet weather with you as you travel. Come on down to the Tahoe Sierra we need rain big time.

Sounds a lot like camp 4 in the 70's. you should feell right at home Mark. All kidding aside, I hope you get along to The Black soon and that the people there get a break in the devastating rain.

Funny, it was pretty dry over here all day. I went climbing, stayed dry, and came home to hear about the apocalypse on the Front Range. Enjoy the Black!

And: can it rain that long? This year, it seems like it can indeed. Good luck y'all.

I escaped!

They were going to close a bridge that would have trapped my car there till the bridge was fixed, maybe a few months, so I quickly loaded up my stuff and blasted across and out of there. I'm now in Fort Collins with friends and have plans to climb at Vedavoo tomorrow!

Yeah! I'm back on!

Been raining off and on in Jackson, but mostly off. Started with a full day of rain the day after I got back from The Winds.

Really feeling for the folks in Lyons. I love that town, Estes too. What a mess.

Glad you got out Hudon. Looking forward to meeting you at facelift.

I'm leaving in the morning for Carson City. No trip to Boulder *on the way* for me. :-(
