I posted this on the fire thread.

North Fork and Oakhurst and Wawona were clear today. Weds.. August 28.

This forecast is saying that it will be smokey in the valley this weekend. Do not trust the long range as far as smoke goes because I haven't seen them forecast out more then a few days. If you use the point and click on that page, it also shows the meadows as being smokey after tomorrow.

Friends are in the valley today and said it's clear there. Same friends said some smoke rolled into the meadows yesterday. Tioga road is open from LV to Yosemite Creek but closed west of there.
I'm in mammoth and its perfect. Three days ago the smoke started just north of Conway Summit.

Sequoia around Chimney Rocks as well as down in Kings Canyon were beautiful this weekend according to people. I was in the Kaweah drainage and there was no smoke either. I can see up there right now and it looks the same. We've got a couple tiny fires that cause some random haze during inversions and stuff but it's hardly noticeable. And I'm pretty sure the small fire down in Kings Canyon is out.

Here's some input...grey is air quality alert, yellow is dense smoke advisory:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sto/

You can choose other areas by clicking on this map:

http://www.weather.gov

A nice feature is that you can click on a particular spot and get a forecast which includes smoke predictions - they're guessing smoke Thursday night through Saturday in Tuolumne for instance (then slight chance of thunderstorms for the next few days).

As of Saturday our place near Conway Summit (between Lee Vining and Bridgeport) was clear in the morning, but would start to smoke up a bit in the late afternoon(assume shifting wind patterns).
The fire at Aurora has really smoked upped the Mono basin, and that seemed like pretty much all day. But nothing like Carson City. We drove into CC last Friday and it was absolutely miserable there.

I live near the eastern foothills in Clovis. It's been clear of smoke to the east, but there was a noticeable smoke plume to the west (which would be south and slightly east of the Rim Fire) this morning, that I had not seen before today.

We then drove through Tioga and Tuolumne at night into the Valley, taking Hwy140 back to the Bay. While up there at the Pass, I could see many stars in the sky. Rolled down the window many times during the drive on Hwy120, I didn't smell smoke, except when passing by Tuolumne Campground. It was strong but I didn't think it was from the Rim... : x

The last image of the day. Viewed from Hwy120 east of Tamarack Flat at 11:18pm on Aug 25, Sunday. Watching multiple fires on different ridge lines from distance, it reminded me of Mordor... I could only wish those who are in the area all the best, hoping everyone is safe and sound.

Tahoe at Noon today Thursday august 29th.

Finally pretty clear for a while. Most mornings though it is ok up high on the rim trail even though the valleys and basin have been awful. It was getting hazy again later in the afternoon. Not thick smoke though.

Seems if the fire flares up big time adding 10k acres or more in a day we get nailed about a day later.

Early this morning the national weather service was not predicting smoke in the valley or wawaona. Then someone either wised up or decided that they couldn't pretend that it was going to be sunny today here in the park, so they changed it. They had predicted it a few days ago, then removed it. I wonder if they removed it because of pressure from the tourist industry.

Smoke will again have the heaviest impacts to communities in the immediate fire area, such as Groveland, Tuolumne City, Pinecrest, Greeley Hill, Columbia, and Sonora, in the morning hours. Inversions may break a little earlier allowing smoke to begin clearing sooner. Daytime transport winds should be more southwesterly, reducing impacts to the Yosemite Valley, El Portal, and San Joaquin Valley, but likely returning smoke to the Washoe and Carson Valleys, Markleeville, and other communities northeast of the fire.
Long-range outlook
Southwest transport winds will dominate for the next several days. This should keep air quality in the Yosemite Valley and areas south of the fire in the good to moderate range. Areas north and northeast of the fire, including the Lake Tahoe Basin, and Washoe and Carson valleys will see higher impacts. Communities within the immediate fire area will continue to see intense morning smoke.

Heh. Yeah, I'm not into them either. Anymore.

I haven't been up that wall, but I do know there is a bell at the top. I'm not sure the hours on that rig. Can't trust a wall that has hours though. Nawmean?

The crux for me climbing that wall is the climbing season on that plastic pulling Spiderman simulator coincides precisely with the season for the crack jamming and granite pinching round these parts. It's easy to deduce which way the crocodile chomps in that lineup ;).

A little Fords for me tomorrow since the smoker cleared out.
