You guys... our concern was for our older (but active) parents and our nephew who is 7 and has asthma. Mr. Crusher and I spend a lot of time up there so not "seeing" the sights is no buggy...just a long family weekend get together where we hope no one gets smoke inhalation, etc.

Have a good weekend all of you and thanks for the help.

I've lived in Bishop for fifteen years and this is definitely the worst I've seen it.I'm with Eric....No White mtns,no Tom this A.M. When I first moved here the Panamint Fire was going on and there were actual smoke clouds blowin' down my street, but you could get above it.This one doesn't seem so.Funny tho,I was flyfishin' up South Fork yesterday and it was bluebird and still decent in town. This morning...Not so much.

"This smoke thing is so blown out of proportion. Just climb, run etc etc as normal"...

Heavy smoke in the air and people such as myself can find themselves quickly in a world of serious discomfort, boarding on real TROUBLE...

Telling people to go out regardless of the smoke isn't real bright...

The smoke is bad enough here at times that anyone with potential health risks should avoid the area.

When you go big Dave, you really go big. I hope you have a great trip.

Its smokey today here in Wawona. Oakhurst was also smokey. How is everyone else doing? I would love to know how smokey it is in the meadows if anyone is going up there this weekend.

Containment of the Aspen fire north of Huntington Lake remained at 75% Tuesday, but more personnel have been sent home, the U.S. Forest Service said.

The number of personnel on the fire dropped to 1,523 from 1,828 on Sunday, officials said. As of Wednesday morning, the fire -- sparked by lightning on July 22 -- had burned 21,930 acres.

While the number of firefighting personnel decreased, the cost of fighting the fire increased to $25 million from $21.5 million reported Sunday.

Recreation and businesses remain open in the areas of Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake, Lake Thomas Edison, Florence Lake and Mono Hot Springs. The Badger Flats Campground is open to the public and the Midge Creek Campground will open Wednesday at noon.

Several roads and campgrounds remain closed.

Hi all,

So last Thursday (Aug. 1st) seemed to be the worst day of the 4 we spent in June - from Olancha all the way up to Deadman's it looked worse than a Summer day in L.A. in the 70's. I never considered myself sensitive to bad air but by the time I reached Bishop I was hoarse and this was with only recycled air on in the car. Couldn't see the Whitney range down by Lone Pine and could barely make out Mammoth Mtn. Pretty bad.

Past Deadman's it cleared some and on the June Lake Loop it was hazy but better.

So for the next few days it would be clear in the am, then fully smokey/hazy in a matter of an hour depending on the wind shift by afternoon. Monday driving home down the Owen's Valley it was better but still hazy.

I hope the rest of the monsoon season isn't bad and that we don't have more fires. This was definitely the worst I've ever seen it up there.

spent last week as trail crew leader out of Lake Edison on the west side, only 15 miles or so east of the fire. Smoke most of the time, although always worse in the afternoon with westerly winds.

The last few days would have been the worst, as they were setting very large backfires to burn into the fire.

The worst of this should be over soon.
