I am looking for a good combination of alpine lake camping + nearby backcountry cragging around the Tahoe area. Does this exist? I would prefer not to car camp...

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Checkout the PCT trail from Donner to Echo lakes. Both of these have a place to leave ur car.
Both have lots of established climbs. And you can pack in from there as far as you want to tons of BC craggin and bouldering. With awesome lakes with fish everywhere!
This is Truely Gods country!

Just stealth camp/bivy/get a permit around either Eagle Lake or Echo Lakes. Tons of quality cragging.

This is helpful - just to be clear about camping, is this forest service land that requires an overnight permit but otherwise dispersed camping is allowed anywhere? or would it be stealthy/bandit camping? or are there designated sites?

If you're at Eagle Lake, you're in a wilderness, and need a permit.

Echo lakes are NF land, to the best of my knowledge, with private FS leases along the shore.

I'll say this though, and people may bust my balls for doing so, but if you're going out with one other person, and you don't have a fire, and you truly leave no trace, you're good to go wherever you want to respectfully roam. If you can get the permit, that's preferable though.

Following up on this. For someone who has never been to echo lakes, it looks like the well known crags are pretty close to civilization and camping nearby might not be so great.

Are there other obvious crags/climbing that are a bit further up the PCT and have water nearby?

Alternatively, are there other backcountry climbing options in Tahoe with alpine lakes nearby? Links are enormously helpful.
