Wind Chill - this pitch is rated 5.10 but is probably 5.11 due to the affect of the lichen on the feet

We've had some good adventures le_bruce :)

Who here has tried to use lichen for human nutrition or to make food more palatable?

On a planned 5-day backpacking trip to climb Black Kaweah, on the first night another buddy and I hung our food in a tree (not well enough) and a bear ate most of our food. I found the bear the next morning and chased him up Elizabeth Pass a bit and recovered a half pack of dry spaghetti, a bag of Reese's peanut butter chips, and a can of tomato paste with a bear tooth puncture in it. We decided to proceed.

The spaghetti with plain tomato paste was pretty rough, so I scraped some lichen off the rocks and pretended it was seasoning. Made it different, possibly better. Not inedible at least, and we didn't die. But I was about 20 years old and didn't know I could die yet.
