Frick! One minute I'm fine and 15 minutes later my elbow has a goiter. I busted my shoulder about 4 months back and it really has not healed. The torn muscle seems to have dropped to my elbow and resulted in some significant swelling. Freaks me out. Been icing which seems to have done some good.
I had a golf ball on my elbow for a couple of days once. But there was no mystery about the cause -- I took a whipper and came clanging back elbow first into a corner about fifteen or twenty feet down. Next day there was a big golf ball growing off my elbow. But it was just fluid, and went away after a few days.
Oh yeah. Once from a gout attack and once from banging it pretty good. Recently, a guy I work with had his elbow swell up for no apparent reason. After about a week of waiting for it to get better he went to a doc and the doc said it was Bursitis and sometimes the inflammation gets worse than the body can process and he had a bunch of fluid drained and it got better. He also had some advil.
Thanks. It seems to be settling out with the icing but is still ugly. There was no real direct trauma, which is what freaks me out. One minute I'm sitting there and a few minutes later my elbow is going gonzo. Golf ball size is more accurate. Just freaked me out at first.
A few months ago I tore a Quad muscle while doing 50 yd. dashes. In a day or two the torn part bunched up in the upper part of my quad in a tight , golf - sized ball.
When I first felt it ( it was under the skin and not visible) I thought it was a cancerous tumor of some sort. Freaked me out big time. Until I was able to see a Doc I was imagining all sorts of hideous scenarios.
In several weeks the thing disappeared. Needless to say I avoided running , and even kept walking to a minimum until my body could clear out the damaged muscle.
It is important to avoid the activity that brought about the tear until the muscle is allowed to heal..
I have done this a few times skateboarding when I was younger. It is wierd to look at for sure & really sucks on the comfort side of things, I think what Mucci said about the bursa was what my dr told me too.Hope u heal up well John, have a good day.
Definitely had one of those once from landing on my elbow on a flight of stairs. Went to the doc, and she drained it. It was a bursa sack dealio. There was something about clear liquid versus blood. Whichever was the best prognosis was the one I had. No big deal, but pretty bizarre looking until they drained it, that's for sure.
