Do you want a future that is controlled by machines? A future where there are no jobs for man, a future that is run by robots and computers?
Exactly. The future is full automation of almost all activities performed by humans. There's massive movement towards this right now, a lot of new software, robotics, etc. This (total automation) is the goal that is openly expressed in computer engineering circles right now (well, more jobs for engineers...)
There're Google self-driving cars around, there's a lettuce-picking robot working in Watsonville, not to mention all other kinds of automation, automation of customer service, document processing/office tasks, physical labor, accounting, etc, etc. (have you been to some car assembly plants lately?) Everything will be automated!
For employers, it's simply a cost matter: if robotics and other automation services are cheaper than humans, they will replace human workers. I can see that jobs in medical sector will be tough to replace...Even a few engineering support jobs are gone basically, replaced by automation tools.

The job that will never go away under capitalism, though, is: defrauding other people of their money.

"Factory in a day" is an upcoming robot line; the robots are meant to be customizable workers shipped in 24-hour time from order, targeting to replace human workers in small and medium size enterprise (large enterprise covered with more long term robot design projects). Since computer vision field is rapidly evolving--there'll be soon a breakthrough that will bring massive amount of new robots/automation to replace humans, as one challenge is how to make the robot recognize objects seen by its cameras well.

Again...Why are we allowing the engineering of a future, where mankind is no longer needed?

When was mankind ever needed?

The Earth certainly doesn't "need" humans. The rest of the biosphere is better off without us.

What do you have against efficiency?

All those people eating and shitting. Just what the world needs...
