My daughter and me (at a recent wedding). When you have a wonderful child, every day is father's day.

A wonderful Father's Day present from my oldest. Best wishes to all dads, including my own, way out there on the edge of Orion, heading for forever.

My daughter and the woman who helped me bring her into this world took me on a 9 mile hike in RMNP. Had to settle for a x-c phone conversation with my son in NH, then call my own dad. I'm extremely lucky and grateful to have them all in my life.

Sorry about your Dad, Susan. God bless him.

Ironically, this is the heart of the thread. Fathers handing down stuff to the kids, or next generation.

Teach them well, I think the Crosby/Stills/Nash sang that one....

'Retirement in Short Supply'

My old dad he was a sitting by the fire,
He was putting up his feet because he thought he could retire,
But the telephone rang it was ringing off the hook,
And what do you know it was Dr. Cook,
He said, "Man get on your feet you better make some tracks,
You better get to moving and them's the facts,"
The doctor said his orders were to, "Start out real slow,
Then after a spell you really got to go,
Just shake your hips and move em all about!"
The doctor he said with a bellicose shout,
Old dad hung up the phone to his wife he said,
"That old Dr. Cook must be out of his head,"
Then his dear wife said as she took off his cap,
"Honey don't be so cranky it's time for your nap,"
And my old dad he dreamed of his golfing and sports,
And of current events and the weather reports,
Of his days as an athlete of fishing and then,
He slept like the slumber of two hundred men,
His wheezing and snoring nearly brought down the house,
He woke with a shaking and words from his spouse,
"Honey wake up 'cuz your snoring's severe,
Now go take your walk doctors orders you hear?"
My old dad then quickly was up on his feet,
According to his wife his retirement was complete.

Happy Father's Day, Dad!

I was a lucky one. I had my Dad for 64 years. He died two years ago at 91. He raised my brothers and I by himself from the time we were five. He lost one son, thanks to war, but saw two of his children retire.

He taught me to hunt and fish and love the Great Outdoors. He taught me to be a lady and how to say no and mean it. He taught me to care about the world and the people in it.

Our politics and beliefs in how the world should be diverged. He never became any less a Dad. He always knew what really was the most important. It all starts with family.

My stepdad, an old Navy man, looking right at home on the bridge of the once mighty battleship Iowa. During the Korean war he drove his LST full of tanks onto the beach-head an Inchon.

This is what they loaded into the main 16' guns. Silk packs full of powder with a shell at the end. Here he's imitating Slim Pickens at the end of Dr. Strangelove. The security guy didn't get it, and informed him that he was sitting on the charge backwards.

I'll be sending a bill to my lawyer daughter.

I should charge her lawyer rates, actually.

Much chagrin, but it's kinda normal.

Life goes on.

Is there such a thing as a "Jewish father" routine?

I found a California Angels ball cap on Old 99 earlier, all dried out and full of sand. I had it with me when I arrived at the bear-proof dining establishment just before the crowd of celebrating happy fathers and their tribes began their blitzkrieg.

I thought about giving it to Baby Bear, but Mama Bear was horrified when I capped Junior and Papa Bear seemed peeved. He must be an Oakland A's fan.
Happy Father's Day, people!!

Much as I am pleased to be mentioned along side Prof. Gill, I did not earn it. However I would suggest all the kids out there who have been doing great things for years, just imagine you are listed along side your mentors. You have earned it.
