This would explain why there's no 'mericans up in Whistler for the long weekend.

Glad more ppl weren't injured & that nobody died, that's gnarly.

Bridge was given a grade of C- before it collapsed lol.

I wanted to make several trips to Squamish this season. Let's see how long it will take them to get it fixed. Six weeks? Three months?

What would be the easiest way around this objective hazard, besides swimming or a boat?? There must be a detour to the east, no?

It was taken out by a Canadian. I wonder if there is some kind of false flag action going on here as a precursor to a larger event?

I'm not goin anywhere except climbing! A Memorial Day weekend in Squam with no Seatlleites?! Was just curious about how long it would take to get around the mess & if it would be worth it for the prospective traveler.

From I 5 South exit 208 east to Arlington, north to Sedro Woolley on # 9, then east back to Hwy I5.

Maximum 15 minute detour.

This incident (which fortunately took no lives) is a perfect illustration of the disconnect with reality for which the US is the world's current poster child.

I've lived in Seattle for the last twelve years. It is home to some of the biggest money-generators in the history of the world. Boeing. Microsoft. Adobe. Etc Etc et bloody cetera. The amount of money that flows into this state is not comprehensible by a normal human mind.

And yet bridges fall down because no one is willing to pay one single f*#king penny toward the common good. Taxes? Forget it. Taxation is the third rail of US politics and the fact that the state (and the country) is falling into infrastructural decay is a price everyone in this country seems happy to pay in return for "No new taxes!"

Sorry. End Rant.

They should get an automobile ferry system going as soon as possible?

Otherwise one must swim .....

If all it took was the a trailer to clip a post and the entire damn bridge falls down and there is little damage to the trailer ....what does this say about the bridge ?

Pretty pathetic to be blaming some trucker when the bridge was a piece of shite.

Further to what Ghost posted, there's an interesting opinion piece in the Guardian here:

there are more bridges just like that one all up and down I-5 in WA, old, green, two lane primitivo pieces of crap, traffic has been steadily increasing on I-5 but the road remains the same,

compare the bay bridge improvements with the stuff going on up here, what a joke, people are kind of retarded up here, real friendly, but retarded,i don't know how to explain it, brain cells are missing in the pac north west,

did you see the pic of the bridge in the water? rust underneath the paint where the girders folded in half,

full props going out to the guys at the washington DOT for giving the bridge the thumbs up after a previous incident,

you want to see something scary go look at that erector set bridge over the columbia river at Astoria, sheesh,

They're working on that bridge ( for a few years now ).

So now what you have is essentially a one-lane bridge.

Ditto to what Ghost and Tami said. Kind of incredible when you consider the phenomenal wealth generated in this area.

Wayno: are you heading to Squamish this season for the climbing?

There is an obvious solution....

Privatize all the bridges!

I gotta tell you those Canuk truck drivers are a scary bunch. They roll to a different set of rules in Canada - up there? The rule is 'get the f*#k outta my way!' Might makes right.

I bet he clipped that bridge on purpose and lol'd when he saw it collapse in the rear view... f*#king Albertans! Probably shipping some land raping petroleum logging miner contraption to harvest the last of our old growth.

BASTARDS!

I don't like it any more than you men.
