http://www.quirkology.com/UK/Experiment_sport.shtml

Quirkology teamed up with fitness expert Sam Murphy to explore the relationship between sport and attraction. Are men more impressed by women who play football or climb mountains? Do women go for body builders or yoga fanatics?

The work involved over 6000 people indicating which sporting activities would make a member of the opposite sex more attractive. Results revealed that 57% of women found climbing attractive, making it the sexiest sport from a female perspective. This was closely followed by extreme sports (56%), football (52%), and hiking (51%). Bottom of their list came aerobics and golf, with just 9% and 13% of the vote respectively.

In contrast, men were most attracted to women into aerobics (70%), followed by yoga (65%), and going to the gym (64%). Bottom of their list came bodybuilding (5%), rugby (6%), and golf (18%).

Women’s choices appear to reflect the type of psychological qualities that they find attractive – such as bravery and a willingness to take on challenges - whilst men are more shallow, looking for a woman who is physically fit but not challenging their ego by being overly strong.

The findings also reveal that both men and women have little insight into what sports the opposite sex find attractive. 56% of men believe that women are attracted to male bodybuilders, whereas only 19% actually are. Likewise, 73% of women think that men find female runners attractive, whereas in reality 55% do.

'Our findings suggest that women who've been pounding the pavements in search of love would do better taking up aerobics, while men seeking women need to ditch the weights and get on the climbing wall,' said Murphy. 'That said, the best way to find happiness - not to mention a long-lasting fitness regime - is to do what you love. Unless, that is, it's golf!'

Full results
Everyone was asked to indicate whether they would find a member of the opposite sex more attractive if they engaged in one of 15 sporting/physical activities (response options ‘yes’, ‘uncertain’, and ‘no’). The percentage of men giving the ‘yes’ option to each option is as follows:

I have found that the idea of a climber is much more appealing than the reality in most women's eyes. Gets me laid... also got me divorced.

This...could not be more true.

I think a good chunk of the reason my long-term deal ended was due, in part, to the amount of time I wanted to be climbing vs. doing relationshippy nonsense. However, the idea of me climbing mountains, building fire from nothing, etc. was such a ridiculous turn-on to her.

I told her to go get a pretend man, find some hipster with a flannel shirt and beard, that stays around in the city and gets manicures. I wonder if she has yet?

yeah.. that tends to go over really well with both women and men when you think of their needs as nonsense. How long would you last with a woman if she thought everything you wanted was nonsense?

"No you aren't going climbing. That climbing stuff is nonsense. Now Go mow the lawn."

I'm sure that would go over really well with you.

I noticed that line, too, and a red flag shot up the mast so quickly I thought it was the ex with more relationship nonsense.

Love makes no sense. It just be.

Survey says: "Surveys are self-serving."

Red flag them all, especially ones which denigrate my hometown (or yours).

You damned sure only have ONE hometown to stand up for in life,
Unlike spouses, who can become numerous.
(They should be cheaper by the dozen. Now, that would be humorous.)

Easy, boys.

Easy.

Didn’t realize the PC relationship police were on the job. Phew!

On a serious note: Of course your partner’s needs are important. Because I understood this (and my love of climbing seemed to preclude my meeting of her “together-time-frequency” needs) I ended the relationship, even though we both loved each other LIKE MAD.

That being said…if you’d like to live in an alternate reality, where the heavy majority of women DON'T crank back the man’s freedom and exploits like some sort of regulator, allowing for the settling and the picket fence and the kids, feel free. There are exceptions, but all my married friends often lament that they don’t have the climbing/traveling lifestyle that being single affords, and share the woes of the nagging, etc. Of course, this is most likely a necessary phenomenon, if we hope to continue as a species. I’m just one of the lucky ones that gets to escape it.

Don’t worry – I know there are exceptions to every rule. I’m sure your girlfriend is wonderful…

From my personal experience? She loved that I went out into the wilderness, tied myself into a rope on some wintery rocky peak, and then returned to her good cooking and GOOD loving. It was manly, and the time apart suffering made me appreciate her and the comfort of home even more. It was great!

And then…

“You’re going out too much. I think you should only go every other or third weekend.”

I compromised. Then THAT became too frequent for her to be satisfied. I wanted her to be happy, so I had to say goodbye.

This is nothing special, this is just what happens most of the time. Enjoy it, those of you entangled in the web.

1.26 seconds later: "Ok hon, lawns' done, going climbing".

Just one more advantage to desert living...lawn? Hahaha, we don't got no stinking "lawns".

I think most women like intelligent, goal-oriented, respectful men....

Not like the clique of hunters I encountered last year in Island Park. Bailing out of their vehicles to take a bathroom break...perpetually goosing and ridiculing one another in the process, they left without one of their entourage...

But these were smart hunters...they journeyed but two or three miles before discovering him missing...and returned.

Climbers aren't amnesiacs...and would never leave a comrade. They just drive off cliffs while posting pornography from their iphones...

IDK Jennie sounds like what any man i have in my short 35 years on this plane considers good fun. The ones that tell you different are either lying to you as to be considerate and sensitive of your feelings, trying to get in your pants by playing to your weakness or just plain weird bordering on creepy/scary and maybe someone you might want to watch your kids around.

Just saying...
