Hossj - and even if the bicyclist does not have breaks, it is likely that he has damaged the disks and the cushioning cells, which will make those joints permanently more vulnerable.

The location of this incident is the famous "Rock Store" climb on Mullholland Drive in the Santa Monica mountains just north of LA.
On weekends there can be hundreds of motorcycles parked at the Rock Store which is at the bottom of the climb. Hey, Jay Leno even rides it regularly.

The exact spot on the climb in the video is the last hairpin turn as you head uphill from the southeast. The last time I rode it, with the Cannondale Pro Cycling Team in January, somebody was just finishing up filming a TV commercial at that exact same location.

I remember when people who would spend that much $$ on a bicycle were fit.

Seems like the more expensive the bike, the bigger the gut on those folks.

The most dangerous situation when splitting is when there is room for a car to change lanes. They will pull over on you even when you are not splitting lanes. I split for years on the 91 freeway in LA/OC county. Not dangerous if done sanely.

I sold my bike last summer to a guy that did really minimal restoration work on it.

Finished result.

Now it's in a museum in New York

That makes me really feel old!

Still riding an 80's vintage Schwinn though

Edit:
Glen Curtis Museum in Hammondsport NY.
