That is bizarre.

Clear highway, no other traffic, perfect visibility... How could he not have seen the cyclists? How, with the entire highway available to him, could he not have avoided them?

What is up with that stretch of road??? Anyone check out the videos that come up after that first one. Clip after clip of people laying down their bikes on that curve. Going over the handlebars, catching on fire, etc. And why is someone always filming right there?

"nice part is......nothing is bleeding terribly"

yeah except for all the internal bleeding that you cannot see!

Why was nobody there holding him in c-spine ?

nobody there prolly knows anything about emergency response to a trauma victim. at least the paramedic was holding him in c-spine......after he had gotten up and walked across the road.

yeah i was a little fixated on that ass crack at first :)

Target Fixation.

Try riding a bicycle and look around. Keep a perfect line. Good luck!

Sucks for the bicyclists, also sucks for the motorcyclist, sh#t happens. That's what insurance is for. They knew Mulholland was a speed zone.

Yikes. Maybe it's a good thing I haven't had time to get out on my road bike. Always was mindful of cars. Now I'll have to be paranoid about bikes too, especially the hordes who loiter around the Rock Store.
They knew Mulholland was a speed zone.
Yes. How dare those cyclists believe they could use the roads without someone crashing into them.

Apparently no real injuries other than bumps and bruises out of this accident. Lucky!

I have a buddy, young man, motorcycle nut. Always speeding around at twice the limit. But one time he was just going to the store to get diapers for his newborn daughter, and he's stopped at a stop sign, and someone in a Honda plows into him from behind. he flies up and back, bounces off the windshield and lands some distance behind the car. (not unlike this accident) He thought he was alright, got up and walked home, went to doctor next day. Even doctor checked him out as OK. But now a year later he is supper weak on the left side, both leg and arm. Has to walk with a cane. Lost his job. Really sad situation. I don't know what the legal/financial situation is but I suspect he probably already settled for something way too low.

If someone who's injured wants to sit up or do whatever, there's not much you can do about it.
You can say, "you should stay still, you may have a spine injury" but...

Holding someone who's injured when they don't want to be held or crowded may result in the good old fight part of the fight or flee reflex.

yeah totally correct. i've been in a situation where i tried to help a trauma victim and they wouldn't listen at all. i tried to explain that it is in there best interest to not move until the paramedics arrived and took over. no bueno. it all boils down to legal consent. oh well, i tried.....

not to mention that you could have a subdural hematoma going on. you may seem fine right after, maybe a slight headache, but later that day when you go to bed you may never wake up. the pressure in your skull keeps slowly rising so much so that eventually it kills you. it has happened to many a people :(

I was playing volleyball with a guy who took a fall on concrete. He got up, even though we all told him to sit until we could asses his condition, and ran into a fence post because he was so messed up from the fall. He still insisted that he was ok and then we find out later that he drove to the ER instead of going home. The guy was smart enough to know he was hurt but way to egotistical (and stupid) to admit it to anyone there. I've hear the phrase "...died from embarrassment" but dying to avoid embarrassment? Sheesh.

That helmet sure did save that bike-riders life. A fall from three or four feet onto the pavement on his head could not have ended well without it.

Well you wouldn't wear all red yelling blood, in an all crip neighborhood.

Jeremy Ross, I think you've got it.

Inexperienced rider mistake, and usually ends way worse than this: don't have the lean to keep your turn radius, freak out that you don't have enough speed to increase your lean, and your (very instinctual) defense mechanism) is to let off the throttle or hit the brakes.

Sucks that he involved others in it.

Yeah, because those two activities are pretty identical.

Road biking scares the crap out of me. I frequently feel more secure on run out terrain that I have on a bike on the side of a highway.
