So just so you might step out of your individual conversations for a minute,

I'll repeat

So regardless of our individual political/ideological beliefs I think we can all agree that the victims are the tragedy - especially those who lost limbs. I've been to Cambodia and seen the carnage caused by landmines. I also doubt that most of the peeps who are now amputees are rich with incredible health insurance.

Why don't we, as a site/community/campfire, start a fund for the guys and gals who lost limbs. Didn't Russ just do something like this recently for Blitzo or someone? Sh#t I'd happily join in with even evil rap bolters on this!

What sez everyone????

Let's help out!

what is a MONON?

A person who operates only on Mondays. I think it has to do with union rules or something like that.

Now for the PLIERS AND A BLOWTORCH!

Yes, let's show the world what a shining example of democracy we are.

Yes they did unspeakable horror. Yes they deserve our derision and to be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. Life in solitary with no outside communications and access only to books and videos of compassion and love would be my punishment of choice.

Torture only drags us down with the scum that breeds this kind of subhuman. We are more evolved.

Ron,

I prolly tend to lean more to your end of the spectrum on this - centainly more than the typical poster here, but come on, let's change this conversation and try to help out the amputee survivors!

suspect in custody and the Red socks suck again!

When I first saw the suspects' photos, I thought they were probably Yankee fans.

Ron,

Let me preface this with the following: I love my country, support it strongly, and am neither a repub, dem, or lib. That said I really don't have a lot of faith in big government to deal with a compensation program for victims. Currently we're cutting travel for key personal on many programs which will indeed cost us more money in the future. We're great at creating overly bureaucratic entities that get lost in the weeds of the rules they create.

That said, this is your thread. Just like I would never want to put up an FA over an existing line I will respectfully (without prejudice) take my idea to it's own thread if you think that's where it should live. This just seems to be a place where the a fund to help out the amputees could gain some traction.

From CNN:

[Updated 9:49 p.m. ET] Suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev is in serious condition in the hospital, Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis said.

But how did law enforcement find suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev? A Watertown resident saw blood on a boat in his neighbor's backyard, Davis said.

"He opened the tarp and saw a man covered in blood," he said. The man retreated and alerted law enforcement.

Despite being bloody, the suspect exchanged gunfire with authorities from his hiding place, Davis said. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the suspect, did not have explosives on him at the time of capture, according to Davis.

Ron,

Yeah, I know - kinda daunting. I am all but too familiar with FAR which although very different, tells me this is tricky at best. But we've got a some lawyers on this site - hell I personally know two that post here. Not saying this would be easy. Just seems like something that might get some traction. Hell us climbers could use some good press too.

What's happened to the good old fashioned press confrence? You know, the one where actual INFORMATION was given to the press.

Now, all they do is slap each other on the back, and thank all the various government agencies over and over for twenty minutes.

How about this? We only thank the VOLUNTEERS. And we PAY the professionals. You pros, your thanks will be in your mailbox on the first of the month, in the form of a FIVE FIGURE check.

I think it's the internet. Everything newsworthy is now put out as tweets and live blog posts. By the time they get to the press conference, there's not much left to report. So they use it to thank everyone.

Re: paying the pros - yes. Now that it's over, we can start to save a little money and keep taxes down.

Ron,

Cool! Just got off the phone - apparently the lawyer I wanted to talk to is in Moab this week. I'm going to poke around with some peeps and look in the logistics for this. I'm also going to talk with some others monday who might have some insight into this sort of thing. I should have more info then.

I think after I collect some data and formulate a viable plan I'll start another post but will cross post some.

Dover,

Cool thanks for the link

All,

Glad we got the bastard.
