Spent a bit of time with them in JT yesterday morning. Good time; it was hard to leave but I had things to do. Thanks Harrison and crew for the coffee and making me feel welcome. It was sweet to see the prayer flags.

H put up some prayer flags which were blowing in the JT blow. Meeting Steck and Richard was a pleasure, but mostly I was drawn by H and the Pink. Good people!

Allen Steck, Richard Long. They are climberz. And great people. I wish I would have brought a camera. It was a last minute trip. I felt more at peace for the hour I spent in that campsite than I have in a long while.

Does are the ones!

Edit: When I introduced myself, he said "Richard Long". It took my brain a few ticks to put it together.

Good times with nice people - can't be beat, Johntp. These winds have been crazy the past week or so, everywhere in California as far as I can tell. We were in Death Valley last week and it was like being on another planet at Stovepipe Wells.
Same winds forecast for today in the Bay Area, with highs in the 50s. But by the end of the week, all will be back to normal!

I just got home last night from 4 nights at Ryan. I was suprised to see Mo and H next to our camp.

Cool to see Alan and meet Richard and a few others in the camp.

What a great camping and climbing atmosphere there. We had so much fun and hope everyone at Ryan enjoyed our light show saturday night.

we have pics of climbers climbing headstone friday night if that was u.

No, not me. The shoulder is still busted and unfortunately I had to blow out of there (pun intended) after about an hour of visiting. I was just out making a book delivery to H.

Steck was wearing the same green felt hat from the pic posted by mighty mouse.

John,
It was great to meet you. Thanks for coming all the way out there to visit.

Thanks for the kind words too. It was a blast being out there. The stories around the fire were fantastic. Excellent camaraderie. Steck told a story about that hat. It was left behind at a lodge in the alps and given to him by a friend. It was of excellent quality. While they were all sleeping, a dog got a hold of it and chewed on all night. That was like 40 years ago and its still intact. It had to have been well made.

It was a blast watching Dick, Eric, Allen and Ken Boche climbing at the the Hall of Horrors and elsewhere. They still have it. I hope I can still climb like Allen when I am 87!

Roger sprained his ankle and was hoping someone could drive his truck home. Seeings how the kids were leaving (Mo's son, girlfriend, and friend) and it was getting windier, we all convoyed back to Petaluma, the 6 of us in 4 cars. Chris Jones, Tom Kimbrough, and Beverly Boynton had just arrived so we did not get a chance to hang out on the rocks with them.

John there aren't any stories about me. I have not done enough to tell stories about. I was just lucky enough to be invited to this thing. I think they needed someone younger to pick on, thats all.

I'll bet they just wanted a ride that had good eyes. That and to mess with you. Those buzzards were still bright as a full moon.

Thanks to Harrison, I got an invitation to the annual "Golden Gathering," the first one I've been able to attend. Here are a few pix of some of the participants tho I've got more that I intend to put in an upcoming thread...

The setting:

The sitting:

Harrison told snippets of, and alluded to, escapades on mountains from Alaska to Mexico and beyond, but I cannot do them justice..

As you can see from their clothes, the weather was a bit chilly!

There is more to show and tell about the time there, but it'll have to wait till a bit later...
