That is what I am working on. Hope to show up in The Valley in the best shape of my life. 40 pounds lighter and ready to send.

I am thinking of that line by Yoda in Star Wars.

Dude, your math sucks unless you are a freakishly skinny midget.

You have lost forty pounds, and are half the man you used to be.

That necessitates a weight of 80 pounds BEFORE YOU STARTED YOUR WEIGHT LOSS.

Maybe that is why I didn't see you last year at Facelift - I wasn't looking low enough?

I like it. Paring weight usually pays huge dividends.

It's not literal. It might as well be half of what I am now. Really chunky.
I gained a bunch of weight and need to shed the tonage.
When I do, I am going to float up some really cool stuff.
Been dreaming about the Steck Salathe. Gotta be thin to get through The Narrows.....
I'd really rather not get stuck in there.

Plaidman, I've found that getting in your best shape takes time. Creating a diet you eat on a daily basis that is healthy is super important.

Then, figuring out an exercise plan that includes the things you love to do such as rock climbing, backpacking, hiking, kayaking, biking, swimming....

The MOST important thing is taking a simple plan and then DOING it. What's super great is this may take time, but you are creating a lifestyle for yourself that will last.

I have got a meal plan and learning how to eat right. Working with a coach. I am not doing this on my own. My wife is doing this with me too. I have help. Working on better habits. It's gunna happen all I have to do is DO IT.

In good health now. Passed my physical. I was really just eating like crap.
Never felt better after I stopped eating junk.
Still was climbing and humping loads when needed. Just have to be a whole lot lighter.

You can lose weight by doing nothing, it takes real work to put it back on.

Beware the Narrows, my partner got stuck in them 1.5 years ago and took 1.5 hrs to follow the pitch. Pretty much wasted him.

Though you're excited about a new diet and weight loss presently, train you mind to see this as your new way of living. The same way you don't drink anymore, and don't even think about it anymore, is the way you have to think about foods you used to commonly eat. Chips, soft drinks, fast food, the Pizza Deck, all empty calories filled only with fat and sugar and lay on the road back to the old you.
You can do this, I know you can.

Edge, my congratulations. That's really great.

My curve is like April of 2010--245. Two years later last April, 185 +/-, and still there, but more minus.

My current project is to get my upper body stronger than it ever was.

We used to toss around the term strength-to-weight ratio in Camp 4, when we thought about training, which was seldom. We thought more about climbing, in general.

It's interesting that several many of the older guys hereabouts fall into the Donini mold, the Ron Kauk mold, if you will, where they never were not fit and dialed in. This includes, honorably, the dudes and ladies who have had injuries which have barred them from truly feeling fit or close to 100%.

And then there's the slobs (raising my hand, here, Zumba-boss-lady) who've dropped their guidebooks, if you will, and lost their way in fast foodism, Bud-ism, and overindulgence in BACON and other necessities. Divorce, child support, more booze, it's killer, boys and girls, so keep fit and live each day like it's your last.

The last mail Rick Sylvester sent he was on about Crossfit training and how he's now up to five pull-ups. He barely made ONE when he started, and it wasn't that long ago. We know how Rick is when he gets his teeth into something.

So, Edge, and all the rest of us fitness hackers, I don't know your ages, but Rick's like Jim's age. We can do this.

No more jokin' 'bout Jim, here. Best of weather and health for the NIAAD.*

Thanks Mark for the reminder. I plan on doing a change of lifestyle for the better. Now I can see the difference between eating right and good food. I am on a high right now. Sometimes called a pink cloud.

I am determined to make some healthy choices and develop new habits. We will have to see how this plays out. It really is just like quitting drinking. Food is insidious. I mean sugar! I want the benefits of a clean body so I am willing to do the work. I just need the good habits and those come with making good choices daily. I think I am on the path.

With a little help from my friends I will be standing on El Cap this fall and then have a plethora of other adventures. Life IS an adventure. I am re-inventing myself for the ump-teenth time...... It's always something...
