Leaving my job in June to be a bum, you called?

Looks like Idyllwild/Yo Valley/Tuolumne/High Sierra starting in May. Have a few trips planned already in between weddings etc, but mostly will be trying to meet people and enjoy summer on a rope (though the boulder pad will be used plenty). Going to be bringing along some resumes to drop off on the East Side, but always feel like San Diego is 'home' so can't imagine I won't drift back at some point.

So... what's the job situation like out in Bishop?

There is always jizz.....most of us have sex, survival of the species (not neccessarily a good thing) is dependent on it. Why, then, are we so prudish about a universal, fun activity that is condoned by right wing religious groups.....you know, marriage is just between a man and a woman.

Jim….. I am often surprised with your posts here. I think you keep generating a certain response from STers that could be different, frankly if you altered your tack. And quite a bit more wonderful and in line with your hopes and desires. And I realize this is surprising you or a conundrum. And as the next post after this one remarks (ß Î Ø T Ç H), this OP is bizarre and makes me worry about you.

If not to merely troll or get a conversation rolling by devil’s advocacy, these posts of yours are often quite sour, often narrower than I know you to be in person and after four decades. The difference between you in person---and you are utterly fabulous Jim--- and this Donini persona on the Forum is quite large. It seems you play the codger here a lot and then complain you are pinned as one. Right?

But you are not a codger, after all and for christ’s sake, but still a brilliant creative athlete and good friend to thousands. I think you could have a very different experience on ST if you took a good look at your methods and assumptions here and tried a warmer approach, the approach you always take in person. There are tens of thousands of members reading this stuff, you know, and they want to know about your nearly fifty years of amazing climbing experiences, even if just bit by bit.

I think Mr Donini intends much of his dialogue as tongue-in-cheek humor. He's more approachable to the hoi-polloi than most of the high-priests of climbing.

He rarely fails to answer questions from newcomers about technique, equipment or climbing areas he's familiar

Sometimes he plays the irascible, cranky part...but its a mask covering a wry sense of humor...and usually shows clemency to habitual forum provocateurs.

Jennie got it right.

Jim says things just to see what reaction he will get. Like Warbler's bigger cucumber episode. Jim's like the legendary turn-of-the-century politician, Speaker of the House Joe Cannon, who had a very foul mouth. When called onto the carpet about his bad language Cannon said, "I don't mean a God Damn thing by it."

Jim loves to pull legs, tell stretchers, and offer "offensive" comments just for the hell of it. He doesn't mean it; he just loves to say it. Like one time I talked about my love for golf and Jim piped in that the first time he picked up a club he hit a 5-iron 220 yards, shot an outrageously low score, etc. hum-in-a-hummina. I just called bullshit and laughed at him. He was just testing my gullibility. Show some spine and you'll do fine with Jim.

How you define young is relative to your age. I remember hearing about this old guy going through multiple partners in a day in Arapiles back in '84. I was hearing it from the local climbers in their 20's. It was John Fantini and at the time he was probably only 40!
John is similar to Jim in that he is still cranking at almost 70, redpointed a 5.12d on his 65th birthday.Seems to live on bananas alone.

Keep at it Jim and ignore the people that are young, dumb and scum.

I think society has taught us to feel sorry for old people as they are so frail and weak. I look at it differently. If you were in a crowd with some elderly people and you could see the ghosts of all the people that never make it to their age you would realize that these are the STRONG people, all the weak ones are long gone!

Here's another stereotype I hate. A young man with a sex drive is considered normal but when you become old your a dirty lecherous old man and yet the only thing that has changes is your external appearance not the entity that lives within.

Can't wait for your NIAD report, your so lucky that your body has served you so well after all these years, keep at it.

Many of you are forgetting or never knew, Jim had a very curious period in the past. It's usually private and a well-kept family secret, but here now, generally told. When he took his vows, vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, and the fourth vow, to give "Wholehearted and Free service to the poorest of the poor" suddenly his life's work became clear. Here he is, in a quiet moment in Calcutta:

urine for it

exploding with piss but no vinegar

no longer full of c#m

--'tis only pee for thee--

and the Brucian seeds no longer seek their mark

no longer jet in that long relieving arc

--and now you're becoming impotent

not enough jack to pay the rent--

break out the Cutty Sark

then sit and brood about it in the dark

because when young you forgot to implement

a 401K or any IRA approved by the government--

take heart for the solution is at hand

--ZIPFIZZ is back from being banned!

so break out the Scotch and curse the past

it's just too bad that sex don't last

and if you're bummed out don't be aghast

--this trouble comes to all, at last

Edit: I don't know the names of the gents on either side of Glen Denny.
The line-up, r to l from Glen, is Steve Grossman, Joe Fitschen, George Whitmore, Chris Jones, Russ McLean, Don Lauria, Ken Boche, and Dick Long.
Shoulda made note of that. No crying over spilt cream, though.
And as for how I am feeling post-FacePlaid (heh), the somewhat depressing nature of that poetical screed should speak to that to a certain extent.
I thought I felt well enough to last a day roaming YV, but that did not happen as it happened.
It became apparent that I am still not a well-enough heart patient to attempt such activity, for I was quite short of breath last evening.
Got to keep on truckin'.

"All dressed up and nowhere to go." C'est ca, ami.
