Real hippies don't bother me nearly as much as those who are hippies as an ephemeral fashion statement that will disappear when it's no longer convenient for them.

bluering, I know hippies. I was raised with hippies. You, sir, are no hippy.

What the heck is a hippie? Bluering, you seem to classify anyone who didn't work and leached off the system as a hippie, but I classify that person as a bum. I knew many people I would call a hippie who started businesses and did great.

So what the heck is a hippie?

Brandon seems to say that they are preachy..

to me some were adamant about their lifestyles and were preachy. But most weren't.
Just like nearly every other classification of lifestyle.

Me.. I was a drug addict/square/wannabe hippie/ young man who wanted and got some of that "free love" but also made pretty good money and always paid my own way and had long hair.

So what the heck is a hippie?

Prototype of a male hippie. Considered a beatnik, but was hip (underwent some minor changes after Timothy Leary made his contribution). The hippie was just another aside along the great divide of humanity.

George Simmel missed his chance to make his greatest study by 50 years.

Brandon, was it something i said?
Generalizing about "hippies" as zealots is one thing, but to hate them is another.Hippies have opened the door to a lot more "live free" aspects in life then any "other" civil group in our history.

This coming from someone who had their head busted up and thrown in jail for weed in the 70's.

Instead of hating,try thanking one.

Yes,most are outspoken. It is hard to walk a fence and hold back ,i did for years.Things change, you will see yourself, you may have to take a stand. It is human nature.Lines are drawn, people take sides, everybody steps over.Staying centered gets little accomplished.

Thank a hippie

Does Vermont have anything to do with your opinion?

She lives in Santa Cruz or Berkeley, has graying hair down her back, wears hemp home dyed clothing, uses small reading glasses to check for the prescence of GMO on food labels and makes sure she only buys things that are labeled "sustainable", makes her own granola and eats Scottish oatmeal.

Cool...Do you have her address?

A hippie is exactly what it says;hip. Twight said tbe only difference between hippies and punks was tbat punks were angry. I would agree. A rose by any other name. What's in a name or a lable? Bias? Contempt? Envy........TY

In the wee morning, I onces stepped on one that was sleeping on the banks of the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz. I recall him yelling..."hey man, what are you doing?" I replied..."fishing for steelhead." His eyes lit up, "There's fish in here? Can you eat them." That made my day....
