Some thoughts. Just my opinion, take it, leave it, ignore it, whatever...

If you live your life on public internet display (and you do, by choice), you need a thick skin. I don't know who would be talking about you turning down jobs or gossiping about you in general, but I do know that thick skin means you would either ignore it, or frankly not give a sh#t what some random person thinks.

That said, I've weighed in on past threads with exactly what Gregg is saying WRT to the whole social media/consulting fantasy.

Some people will read your tale and come away with this narrative (rightly or wrongly):

Woman sells dog walking business to her employee, but doesn't put any legal instrument in place to protect self-interest and to layout binding details of the sale. Predictably, deal goes awry. Not to worry, said woman has a sweet little scam setup by subletting a rent controlled or stabilized apt in NYC, thereby playing an arbitrage to actual market prices, thereby getting something for nothing and subverting the intent of the program (and the rules) by being an illusory sublet. You are supposed to maintain the place as you primary residence, as well as be in residence 2 out of 4 years, which clearly said woman has not.

Faced with unanticipated turnover of sublet, rather than go back to NYC to deal with it and get new sublet in place to retain unearned passive income stream, woman decides it's too much trouble or too costly to return to NYC and lets go of arbitrage scam.

Now with a lack of the passive income from an asset woman did not actually own anyway, woman "works" playing at website and social media tinkering and sewing&craft hobbies. Woman touts skills in these internet areas, but has no documented work history in this field, nor any successful business ventures to back claimed expertise in "starting your own small business". Undoubtedly, woman "works" hard by spending hour after hour after hour on the web, tinkering with the latest web marketing fad and social media apps under the guise of "work". Add a gas guzzler rust bucket vehicle bound to have pricey repair issues, and an aging pet that will have increasingly frequent vet care needs.

Yucca Valley has plenty of fast food, grocery, and other chains. Places that hire all the time, have insane turnover, and will hire basically anyone with a pulse who can show up on time. You could have gotten work the day you arrived in town, and quickly socked away enough to at least guarantee enough to get back to the Gunks, then quit. A couple shifts a week would have done it, easily. But of course if you twidle thumbs "working" on social media until you don't have enough time left before departure date to even grab a few McD's shifts to fund the gas...

Now this narrative probably has errors, omissions, or misunderstandings..but it is what a casual observer takes away from the ongoing saga as depicted on the interwebz. I hope this doesn't sound too mean spirited, as that is not my intention. But getting an unvarnished look at how outside observers see it may be helpful...or maybe not...it's worth what you paid me for it.

Entitle your lifestyle "Travels with Teddy" and any critics would suddenly be putting you on a pedestal.

JFC! Terrie's choices would not have been the ones I would have made. However, I don't get all the hate. You don't like what she is doing or think that she has no skills, then don't click on her thread or buy her stuff. To gratuitously kick the lady when she has done NOTHING to hurt you says a lot more about you than her.

To put it another way, all you haters can just straight f*#k off.

It's your life Terrie...if others don't get it, the issue is with them. I do like the idea of "Travels with Teddy". It's a good story - worthy of being told.

The only one who seems to be hating on her is the individual who said something about her not wiling to except work.

I like Terrie and have met her and Teddy Both are very cool.

I am impressed with how resourceful she is and her ability to adapt. Very few people can have a bi-coastal lifestyle and make it work, unless they are rich

It just didnt make sense to me that she would be able to help others at these ventures if she cant help herself

Bottom line is we cant be something we are not

We all create what is around us and it seems like her choices are just not working for her now
She is a survivor and will pull through and continue to do positive things.

I am not much of a climber or much of anything for that matter but why hasnt someone gotten more creative with this chalk bag thing.

So this brings me to the question........... Chalk bags? Been around forever.

The awkward reach around and bend back never really made any sense to me.

It seems to distract from the task at hand which is in front of you

What about a chalk brim, or chalk bra . You could call it chalk cans

How about a special shirt with chalk slots just a few inches under the arm pits so you can chalk up and catch a feel Just sayin

Good luck in your latest adventures Terrie ,it is great that you are doing it your way and not sucking up to the man so that they can just get richer. I understand completely as I have been self employed since I was able to realize that it works best for me

if it actually went down this way (no way i will keep track cuz i dont care that much), then that is truly pathetic.

Thank you all for your input.

The Larry - didn't you buy a chalkbag from me just last year???

Life is funny....

My sister has had a California trip planned for about 6 months, and two days of that were intended to come visit me here. Those two days are here now, and she, her son and I went to the park and did the Water Street Mill thing, and also went to Intersection Rock/HVCG to...watch rock climbers.

I am not sure if it is good news or bad news, but her son was captivated. He is 17 years old and I would be really surprised if he doesn't find a way to start climbing(I had offered to take them out before, but his mom poo-poohed it). I said "Uh oh....you're going to start climbing and the next thing you know you'll be asking mom for the car keys and heading off on 3 day road trips, and the next thing you'll be in Yosemite telling her..." and his eyes LIT up! hahahah

She likes to make nice vacations for herself, and this one is no exception. It is going to include some deep sea fishing, apparently. Her son likes that and they did it in Florida a few years ago and caught a Tuna and two Baracuda's I think. She said she had been having fun in the beginning, when they were catching smaller fish left over right, and when she exclaimed how great the fish were, the guy in the boat said 'These are just the BAIT fish!" hahah

Anyway, she booked herself into a pretty swanky B&B here in 29 Palms, called Roughley Manor, which is where I am typing this from. Staying tonight in "The Museum Room" on the grounds. the bathtub is...a real bathtub! Huge, deep, and sumptuous. Luxury....I can't believe I haven't soaked in it yet.

There is another interesting little thing the universe seems to be working on right now, but I think I will keep that to myself, as surely somebody would point out how horrible it must be, no matter they haven't any idea of actual circumstances. But I can tell you, it is something that may be coming to me from something I previously gave, with no strings attached, no expectations at all.

Okay, time for me to weigh in on this. I was hoping it would blow over.

I'm the one that communicated the scuttle to Terrie. I sent it via PM and never expected it to get on the taco; I thought she would keep it in confidence and not dish it out publically.

I was a bit harsh in my PM to her and regret it, but laid it on the line as I saw it based on info from people I have high regard for; apparently that info may have been inacurate. Again, it was sent to Terrie confidentially; not posted.

As others have said, on the taco you need to have a thick skin.

I met Terrie and Teddie at Todd's fest and feel they are great people.

I have great admiration for them following their dreams and have done a fair share to support them. I will continue to do so.

John - I did not disclose that it was you who asked me if I had turned down work which had been offered to me.

I apologize if the person who told you the bullshit "knew it was you" who had relayed the information.

For what it is worth, I did not ask John for the name of the person who he had heard that (nor did John provide it). Whomever it was who said it remains anonymous, whether they were the first hand bullshit maker upper, or simply repeating the bullshit someone else had made up. There ought be no reason for anyone to be miffed at John - he simply asked me if something he had heard was true. I can fully understand why he would believe what was said(and especially if it had come from a trusted person). He did not send me an email spreading gossip - he didn't say "Hey, so and so said..."

I also see absolutely NO reason why I should have kept that rumor confidential. I figured - if someone had told that to you, then there were probably others who had heard the same thing. Why should I lay down and allow lies to be told about me???? It would have been different if I had posted "So and so told me that they heard..."

At any rate - whomever is the bullshit maker upper is the one who is the dog. Not John. Not me.

Good lord.
