Phyl is one of the first climbers I met in California - buildering at Stanford back in the mid-80s!
We had many a good trip to the Valley, Meadows, Pinnacles, Tahoe, JTree, Red Rocks.
She can climb circles around me on slab and is way solid on cracks, too.
Still here and still crankin' - yay!

What a sweet gift from you all! Murcy, what a nice way to thank me for doing the whole 8 hour drive from SF with the 42 foot cushy bivy!

And the wonderful thing is, ST is such a nice way to keep in touch with old friends like Clint and Wayne, to make such good, new "real life" friends and partners, and to make new friends here around the virtual campfire that I will surely meet up with in the years to come!

Thanks, Phyl

Phyl,

Appreciate your positive, honest-to-goodness bearing on ST forum...always constructive and optimistic. You inspire thread posters toward the affirmative and away from the contrary and competitive.

Best wishes!

Phyl and I emailed a few times a while back about mid-week climbing, but never arranged anything.

It never dawned on me (until just now) that Phyl is actually a woman - I assumed I was most likely emailing with the "Phil" that I had climbed with at Planet Granite SF one day last year...LOL!!

Supertopo has always been pretty gender-nuetral to me, but this has me cracking up big-time.

Cheers!

This "appreciation thread" thing is pretty cool - like opening presents Christmas morning!

Hardman! Yes we still should try to get together sometime soon. I broke down and got a PG membership for the next 2 months, so I'm good to go. I have your contact info - will get in touch.

Phyl not only drove all the way down to AH with an RV towing a car, and most of the way back in the car, but also had prepared awesome dinners. Her climbing stoke is off the charts, and she is a terrific partner, and person, in all the big and little ways that add up to YAY. If you think about it, it's a little suspicious. Possible terrorist, here, is what I'm saying.

Phylp was kind enough to agree to climb with me at Red Rock last year in June.

Although I had my camera for this trip, I only took this picture of Dark Shadows before our climb. I didn't want to waste a moment with photography while on route. My intent was to be the best follower I could be and to learn as much as I could from this bold, and talented, and super-generous person.

Fortunately, we stayed in the shadows for most of the climb. Phyl led each pitch and at the top of the 4th we rappelled in the full sun which felt like an oven. At the time Vegas was experiencing the worst heat wave in ten years, and by getting an early start and moving quickly we sneaked this climb in during the very hottest conditions.

The walk out was crux of that adventure, and we agreed it would be better to go to Mt. Charleston the next day, which was mild by comparison.

Phyl,

I enjoyed our conversations as much as the climbs and marvel at your many interests and insights. Most importantly, I admire you for your love of family, and for having a supportive and equally bad-ass husband, Michael, who I hope someday to get to know in real life too.

Thanks for being so generous with your time here at the TacoStand and in the big world.

Sincerely,
Bill

I don't recall Phyl ever being negative about anything. She seems to avoid the negative stuff, but when she does post on something, it's meaningful and heartfelt. She is an artist, a climber, and a great person. Her friends are lifelong and I am honored to know her.
