Mtbphoto, just got my computer to upload them. Thanks for taking the time to load them. Awesome. Looks like TPR still needs a shovel or two. Cheers, lynne

Yeah, thanks for the shots. Here's a set of mine from last weekend:
http://www.qitnl.com/v/032913/

I was going to ski out to Glacier Point but ran out of snow halfway. Another couple of weeks that road will be solid pavement. The notch between Liberty Cap & Mt Broderick is all melted out, just a couple of patches of snow that are easily avoided, I put some footprints on what's left.

Read this on yosemitenews.info, seems to correspond with what I was looking at:

Results for the April snow survey show that the Merced River basin snowpack is at 53% of average while the Tuolumne River basin is at 52% of average for this time of year. Last year, the Merced was at 47% while the Tuolumne was at 43%, but the distribution of snow is much different this year. Last year, the snowpack was fairly consistently about 45% of average at all surveyed elevations. This year, the snowpack is about 70% of average down to around 8,000 feet, but drops off substantially below that. So, those early-June high-elevation backpacking trips that might have been possible last year will probably be much snowier this year.

Does anyone know how you go about volunteering to go up and help clear the Tioga Road?

Looks like we will need volunteers. Dang!

Last update: April 11, 2013

National Park Service road crews will assess the Tioga Road on or about April 15, however, the current plan is to begin plowing on May 15. With the mild winter, we're optimistic the Tioga and Glacier Point Roads may open by Memorial Day weekend (May 25-27)

Anyone know if this is because they aren't hiring summer staff?

The Mono County Board of Supervisors voted last week to use County employees and equipment to help clear the road up to the gate and into the park from the east side, so I hope they don't wait that long.

nothin to do in cali but sit around and wait for the pass to open. its like all the skiers rushin out first week of nov jonesing to ruin their skiis. Then in april (corn) they're at a loss of what to do until the pass opens. worse is they're upset at the gubberment for not plowing the road for them. Looks like some of the people posting on this fourm do know how to have some fun without a ski lift or a snow plow-good for you!

Thanks for the heads up, TM - I totally forgot the date. There are still spots open the weekends following Labor Day if anyone is interested. And there was one of those big snowplows pictured above parked at Crane Flat yesterday.

My networks of East Side spies reports of a lot of chatter lately. Virginia Lakes opened today; Tioga might open to the gate on Friday. This intel has not yet been confirmed.

"Tioga might open to the gate" Means the road will just be open another 7.8 miles to the Tioga entrance station. From the eastside.

That would be something if 120 opened all the way across in April.

FWIW.....6" of snow fell here in June Lake today....much more on Tioga.

I'd venture there is a foot at the gate.
