Just heard today from a friend in Gardnerville that he heard the road will open May 11?!?! Could this be true?

Everybody rooting for the destruction or permanent closure of Tioga Pass Road must really hate the people of Lee Vining, where they pretty much depend on that road economically.

unlikely that anyone hates anyone. More like people are unaware or just wistfully thinking about what if. The meadows without the hordes is awesome.

Another drought year. We have slightly more snow here in Yosemite then last year, but northern california is much lower then last year.

I rode up to Tioga pass last week on my bike. To my surprise at the pass there were 2 rangers and I asked when they are going to start plowing. All they said was that there is some controversy and with the budget cuts, who knows.

It was revealed to me and Marcel on our ride to park headquarters last week with Ranger Mark, who's heart is gold and probably his beta, too, that dry years promote mosquito hordes, unlike wet years, which tend not to cause the little beeotches to procreate in such large numbers.

Billions. How repellent. Stay out of the Meadows this year. The crowds you prevent will thank you.

Please let it be open early this season, say, the end of May!!

It'd be a great celebration of the removal of the metals out of my body. ~_~y

After spending a couple years here on ST I'm pretty certain that serious Tacoides, female and male, are Nomads in real life or Nomads waiting to bust out from their "normal" lives.

I get the wonderful feeling that today many are poised and waiting to take off to the Valley, T. Meadows and many other incredible places in the Sierra like I am.

By Fall I know I'll be ready to migrate elsewhere. Maybe that's why I got a job at Nomads. Smiles, lynnie

We can only hope that the winter of 69 begins this thursday and keeps those stupid Americans on the west side from inter-breeding with the hateful Lee Viningites and their brine shrimp psychosis...

Mtbphoto, just got my computer to upload them. Thanks for taking the time to load them. Awesome. Looks like TPR still needs a shovel or two. Cheers, lynne

Does anyone know how you go about volunteering to go up and help clear the Tioga Road?

Looks like we will need volunteers. Dang!

Last update: April 11, 2013

National Park Service road crews will assess the Tioga Road on or about April 15, however, the current plan is to begin plowing on May 15. With the mild winter, we're optimistic the Tioga and Glacier Point Roads may open by Memorial Day weekend (May 25-27)

Anyone know if this is because they aren't hiring summer staff?

The Mono County Board of Supervisors voted last week to use County employees and equipment to help clear the road up to the gate and into the park from the east side, so I hope they don't wait that long.
