Would guess the campsite will open on 6/21 based on last years road opening to campsite opening gap. I guess there's a chance of it being 6/14 but someone said the store isn't even up yet.

According to this the store and grill are open. There is another thread that says the visitor center is also open. I can't find that information on the government's site. Its pretty hard to wade through, and I have looked extensively.

I drove past Sunday. The store and grill and visitor center are definitely open. The campground still looks desolate, maybe there's work going on behind the gate, I didn't venture in. No one has reported any problems, power and phone are on, everything is fairly dry. It opened June 8 last year. If it opens any later this year, I guess we could blame sequester or something.

Edit: It turns out all is well in this world, after all. Tuolumne Meadows Campground opens this Friday, June 7 2013. Reservations are now online at everyone's second-favorite website, recreation.gov, for dates between June 7 and July 11. Just got mine!

Shhhhh!!! Yeah about 2 hours after I made my prediction it opened. The same thing happened last year though. The site last a while, I think a couple of weeks!

My wife and I hit up Tuolumne this weekend with the intention of hiking Clouds Rest from Tenaya Lake Friday and then climbing on Saturday. We made it up Clouds Rest, but the bloodsuckers were the worst I've ever experienced and scared us off day two. I practically showered in DEET and I still have 86 bites (and counting-what appear to be single large bites keep resolving into multiple overlapping bites as the swelling goes down). Full disclosure, this is only my second Tuolumne summer, and we met some other hikers who claimed that the skeeters were't actually that bad yet. Yikes!

Last weekend I went up Simmons Peak. You can see it from all over the park, but hardly anyone goes up there. Last year only two people signed the log book. Didn't use the axe and crampons so I guess it's officially summer.

The East Arete of Simmons looks pretty fun. Once coming over the Lyell/Maclure saddle from Hutchins Basin, I contoured from below to Amelia Earhart Peak and found it to be an incredibly casual stroll along a gentle ledge that included a stop at "Inkwell Lake." Oddly, there were bear tracks up there.
