In the early 80's when the Lee Vining locals were jonesing to get the pass open a plan to spread manure on the snow to speed up melting was proposed...I'm not sure if this ever happened..? I also heard rumors of local shoveling parties attacking the snow pack on this side of the pass..?

I wonder how long it would take a team strong backs to cut a mile long section, wide enough for an atv to get thru, to go skiing?

The forecast for the weekend looks good. I want to ski into the Saddlebag Lake area. Will the road be clear of ice, can I leave my Subie at home. I am a noob at early season trips up the road.
