Beth, miss you, even tho we don't connect that much.....mostly due to me working to much and not getting out to JTree as much as I desire.

Please, let's connect this summer. A climb, hike or overnight backpack. Steve's invited too. I have lots of gear. :D Really mean it. Please keep in touch.

Cheers and Peace, lynnie.

PS, Do you have my cell? If not I will email it to you.

More pics!!!! Amped to head back up in that neck of the woods in June with my Dad. And then back again with friends.

As the heat here in Southern Nevada gets turned up to 10, I'm getting more and more excited for cool alpine lakes, flawless granite, beautiful puffy clouds, and that blue, blue sky....oh and the MoMart!

Cathedral Peak is the higher one. Eichorn pinnacle is the lower one to the right.

Experiened ones, does that look like there's still snow on the descent from Cathedral? [Edit: thanks, khanom.]

Just checking, I was pretty close, predicted May 15, but the Tioga Pass opened today, May 12. Not to bad for a greenhorn.....:D

Edit: Cragman, yeah, thanks for the pic and the post!

Murcy, yes but it looks completely ok. Rather pathetic for May, actually. You can traverse over to the notch at any point... or descend straight down to climbers right of Eichorn... or take the 4th class (-) gully to the left of the SE butt. Many options.

From the amount of snow, or actually lack of snow, the pass should have been open a while ago. Olmstead was bare, bone dry, nothing. What gives ?

What gives ?

Depends. Who did you vote for in 2004 and 2008?

Just got home from Young Lakes/Conness. Interesting conditions.

Below 8600 ft, there's very little snow. Plowing didn't take much work. TM Campground is pretty dry. About as snow-free as I've ever seen it on opening day.

Go up another 500-1000 feet and conditions change pretty quickly. Up high, this is as much snow as I've ever seen on opening day, going back 5 odd years.

It's shaping up into a nice bed of Sierra cement but I'm glad I brought my snowshoes.
