I didn't see $14 JC Penny work boots in the OP's picture. I pretty much split between them and barefoot in '74.

I believe BB may stand for Barbie Benton.

I don't know if she every climbed anything, but at least you now have a pleasant thought for today.

Does anyone have a brief history of the hardest climbs that Pratt did in Pivetta Muir Trail hiking boots? It would be instructive to repeat the climbs with that footwear and possibly no chalk, just to see how much of a difference it makes.

Pratt was a total badass. I doubt too many folks could climb at his level given those constraints.

In those days money was a big issue. I had to make them last.

The crew I'd hang out with in the 70s - we would take pride in what we could get up with holes in our EBs, ratty slings and nuts, swamis and dubiuos ropes (though the were fat!). Those EBs look like mine!

I had the lowcut version of the Contact on for one of my neckiest leads, Lucky Goes to the Creamery 5.11X in Sedona.

If I am not wrong the name of the lowcut version of the Contact is Grand Teton. There were two versions, one made of leather, one made of leather and canvas.

I started climbing in RD's. They were terrible. PA's were better but when I got my hands on EB's I fell in love with them.
