Very sorry to hear this news Mike.

Make sure they let you try all the diff pain meds until you find the one that agrees with your system. Some are terrible...

All the best from rainy Squamish.

Thank you Relic for setting up this thread. Thank you everyone and I wish I could reply to every single one of you personally. Sandra is posting on my behalf because its the easier way right now . I can do it but my right hand is currently pins and needles so typing is difficult. I am over joyed from the love coming my way. It's pretty obvious why I'm so addicted to being on the taco. Sandra will figure out visiting hours and it should be sooner than initially thought. I will walk out of here. Love Big Mike

Sandra here: thank you for all your kind words. Brought many tears of happiness to mike and I while I read to him. Thank you!!!!!!

Been checking this thread often hoping you would be able to chime in soon, Mike. Glad to hear you're in good spirits, and know that Christina and I are thinking of you. Heal up soon man, you're young, strong and in good health, so you have a lot going for you. Plus you even have your own personal assistant for Taco posting ;)

Berg heil, brother. Hope to talk to you soon.

Well hospital policy won't let you walk out of the hospital... But...once you get to the front steps...

Rock on Mike and Sandra...

Great news about the walking out. I was sick to my stomach reading this last night. Heal up quickly, hopefully you'll be out by the time I get up there and I'll buy you and Sandra a beer or five. Cheers.

Mike and Sandra,
Sorry to hear about this serious injury.
Hopefully you will get some motor function back, but it may take awhile.
I had a T10 fracture (in 1978) and was paralyzed from the waist down for a few weeks, but eventually I was able to wiggle my right big toe and things improved further from there.
Wendy (who posts here as "TheLittleUnit") had a burst L2 fracture (worse on the left side), and a longer recovery with more damage, but she is back in action at work, school, play, etc.
http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=1292707&msg=2006748#msg2006748

P.S. Josh Wharton's spine injury mentioned upthread sounds more like a compression fracture without nerve damage, as in the video he describes having dragged himself out to the road.

Keep us posted on what you can do as things start healing up a bit and you get some energy back. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have, and I think Wendy would, too.

Best Wishes, Big Mike!

heal up, man. Spine injuries suck. Does not sound good, if you're in for a whole week. But does sound like you are getting good care.

All the best.
