I think the lake bed is the best option. I wish I had thought of it. Having a large group of unknown numbers at a group site may not be the best idea.

There is always the Idyllwild option as well.

Bump!

I spoke with the park service and all the reserved sites large enough to handle something like this are booked well into the latter half of May. Plus there is also the parking issue.

My original suggestion was not the best idea.

I vote the lake bed.

yeah, I think the problem at the group sites is not the # of people, but the # of cars. that's been my experience

Penelope and I thought that if Idyllwild would be a reasonable alternative, we could either host at our place or help with things. I noticed someone mentioned Idyllwild before in this post. Again, we could do potluck at our place or help if held elsewhere in IDY. We don't know many of you, but Clark knows us well and we would love to participate...

Saw Clark at the Park Rock cafe yesterday. He is not happy that his hair doesn't seem to share his can-do attitude and is thin, thin, thinning, but even then he says it with a smile on his face and twinkle in his eye. Says he is feeling a little tired, which of course is normal.

The big news was that his phone went kaput and he bought a new one - and has upgraded to an iphone. Seems the Taco isn't optimized for mobile though - he says he has to scroll like crazy to see threads anyway.

To help out Clark, I am offering a commemorative 50th anniversary Half Dome piton signed by Royal Robbins, Jerry Gallwas and Mike Sherrick back in 2008 after the celebration in Yosemite.

I will post some photos and the details once the page refreshes.

I ran into Clark the other day - in between two days doing guiding work, he had been down to the hospital spending 6 hours getting another blood transfusion.

It seems those chemo sessions kick the hell out of his blood cells. This is the second transfusion since he started this round of chemo.

Nonetheless, he was spry and upbeat, talking with enthusiasm as usual. It is amazing how that cancer can jabbing at him and he just scoffs in the face of it and keeps going.

I am going to contribute a signed Half Dome 50th anniversary piton to the fund raising effort for Clark. Royal Robbins, Jerry Gallwas and Mike Sherrick graciously signed 23 of these for me back in 2008 and about half of them are still left to help folks in need.

Buy one for $250 and the proceeds will go directly to Clark. I will cover the shipping costs in North America. Your choice of the remaining numbers available.

Send me an email if you would like to buy one. The first email gets the piton. I will announce the sale once it happens.

You guys are awesome! Thank you! I'm not sure how to go about selling this stuff. Maybe just do it here and work off the honor system and have the money sent through the Friends Of Josh.

Thoughts?
