classic!! Cool, thanks for posting that. I remember hearing about the Gene Simmons interview after I missed it, but it was pulled from the NPR website as well as the Kiss site right away citing copyright and what-not - so I never got to hear it. Leave it to YouTube users...
I have to say, though, Gene totally owns her in this one, IMO. She let it get personal and broke down. The guy may be an ass, but I also would like to have heard more about him and his perspectives and less about how offended TG was.

She does do good work, but username has it right too--she
does tend to throw real softballs at times, especially to
controversial interviewees. . .

informed? this makes me laugh:
"She has a reputation for researching her guests' work largely the night before an interview, often asking them unexpected questions about their early careers..."
well doh, of course she asks stupid questions when all she spends is an evening with the cd or book,
"so Willy, did your guitar get damaged at the airport?"
yeah, look out Mike Wallace, there's a new kid in town,
she got fired as an English teacher 6 weeks after she took the job,
too may uh's, ...like um,..so how...err..how should i say this...

I want to hear the Dr. Sprock Fresh Air Interview.
Gosh Doc, that's some pretty serious spew. Repressed feelings for her? ;-)
She talks funny. Always has. It works for her but I once met a woman who talked the same way and it drove me nuts like I wanted to strangle her.
Upward lilt like a question mark in the middle of a sentence:
"So you've spent many years? in a James Brown personna."
EDIT- Psycho Republicans HATE her. Those interviews are always awkward.

I would love to have someone comment on why they (or others) think Terry Gross is such a great interviewer.
She doesn't misuse quotation marks.

Whether you're Ron Anderson or me(Darwin, my real name, too), I think you'll be interested in Terry's show tonight. It is about recycling, junkyards, reuse and more. She interviews the author of
Junkyard Planet: Travels in the Billion-Dollar Trash Trade
by Adam Minter
His family background from his grandma's time is making money/living scavenging in junkyards and he obviously has a powerful environment concerns, as do we all (right Ron?). He is quite willing to consider efficiency and monetary and scalability tradeoffs between throw-away, reuse, recycle and whatever.
Sorry to use Ron, whom I never met, as foil, but I hope I've been fair and representative.

^^^ OMG! I'm becoming Terry's sole fan club.
Her recycled interview tonight with Werner Herzog features two people who frequently drive me nuts. IMHO, they are of completely orthogonal mind sets and on tangential trajectories through life, but it's such a good interview.

Hah. Darwin pulled this one up out of the compost heap. Which give me the opportunity to say something I meant to say back when it was a live thread last year...
I'm with Sprock.
For whatever reason, a lot of people have fallen in love with her show, but whenever I'm in the car when it comes on, about two minutes is all I can take.

god i hate that stupid kunt,
first off, she acts disinterested and phony,
second, she talks down to people like she is some kind of snooty rich bitch,
sixth, i hate her nasal voice, bitch should use nose drops before she goes on,
I agree. This show is precisely the lame white sh#t that brings Oberlin grads to the kind of orgasm one has when politely and sensitively f*#king another in a respectful, non-threatening and unsatisfying manner.
Same goes for virtually all NPR programming. The suits really stick to the formula.

When fresh air comes on I open the car window, turn off the radio and ponder what the guest speaker would be saying if he were with another interviewer.
Sprock, I like your fight!
