Here’s a phrase new to me — although certainly not the behavior it describes — male answer syndrome. This weekend, the NPR show On The Media will examine this habit of answering a question with great certainty even when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

it's important to be tough when you have to, but to really qualify as a man is to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done and especially when it is in the service of others or for a cause that serves others, that serving primarily his own ego diminishes a man, and that real men should be able to cry and to be able to nurture and care for, to protect and guide, and to serve the cause of women to create the world out of their natures. The bigger man isn't the one who is mostly self serving, but who serves something bigger than himself.
