If the real men of old had the internet they'd have all been a bunch of simpering whinny pussies too. Or at least that's what you'd have seen, bunch of Mechrists and Apogees. The real men would have stayed off it.

Hey, BTW - where's Ammon, Dean Potter, Hans, Honnold....guys like that? Not seen much. Hmmm. Let me consider that.

Real men definitely don't hate on the ponies! There is a Celtic saying that goes, "Never trust a warrior that doesn't dance." I'd add that, yeah, it's important to be tough when you have to, but to really qualify as a man is to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done and especially when it is in the service of others or for a cause that serves others, that serving primarily his own ego diminishes a man, and that real men should be able to cry and to be able to nurture and care for, to protect and guide, and to serve the cause of women to create the world out of their natures. The bigger man isn't the one who is mostly self serving, but who serves something bigger than himself. This is being a man, in my estimation/IMHO!

Then there is the lone wolf kind of man, they do have a certain appeal, though they are mostly only useful to themselves.

The Men Who Don't Fit In*
Robert W. Service

"There's a race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
And they don't know how to rest.
If they just went straight they might go far;
They are strong and brave and true;
But they're always tired of the things that are,
And they want the strange and new.
They say: "Could I find my proper groove,
What a deep mark I would make!"
So they chop and change, and each fresh move
Is only a fresh mistake.

And each forgets, as he strips and runs
With a brilliant, fitful pace,
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones
Who win in the lifelong race.
And each forgets that his youth has fled,
Forgets that his prime is past,
Till he stands one day, with a hope that's dead,
In the glare of the truth at last.

He has failed, he has failed; he has missed his chance;
He has just done things by half.
Life's been a jolly good joke on him,
And now is the time to laugh.
Ha, ha! He is one of the Legion Lost;
He was never meant to win;
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone;
He's a man who won't fit in."

Truth is not the province of "Men".

What you are pining for is this:

Here’s a phrase new to me — although certainly not the behavior it describes — male answer syndrome. This weekend, the NPR show On The Media will examine this habit of answering a question with great certainty even when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

You are looking with great fondness at stupidity.

What is called in a father cold aloofness and brutality toward his children

What is called in a partner abusive

You may think this is what makes a "Man", it is what I think makes a mouse.

Well stated, Mark.

There is a Celtic saying that goes, "Never trust a warrior that doesn't dance."

An excellent quote. I think I will incorporate this one into my practicum.

I count myself lucky cause my Man is a real Man. Has Integrity, thoughtful, kind, patient, a hard worker, not scared to try new adventures, opens my door and has a lot of old time values so many Men today have tossed.

Karen,
Not all of us have forgotten how to give their coat to a lady on a cold night, open doors, or seat a woman at a table. There are still chivalrous men out there.
