Yikes! Cool picture, and at least you were roped up so you could die together?

I have a reputation for that sort of thing, to the point where two separate people saw this Park City Utah shirt and picked it out for me last winter.

I need an iron.

Your picture looks a little more intense than my mistakes though!

Zen koan:

When a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make noise?

Corrollary to said koan?

When you survive your own stupidity, was your action really all that dumb?

The answer to both is YES.

Price's corollary:

To learn from stupidity, most actors must suffer as a consequence.

Otherwise, the actor most likely will remain dumb and lucky - and will never know the difference.

Nonetheless, SteveA is reminding me how often it is better to be luck than good.

Who knows how many times we have all narrowly averted the chop through actions that would have seemed hopelessly stupid in hindsight.

And I guess I can prove my own point about not-learning-from-stupidity-unless-we-suffer-as-a result because I can't think of a definitive zinger of my own that qualifies for OT posting. However, given a bit of thought, I could come up with a lot of minor zingers like rappelling on single anchors or without backup prussiks, ignoring threatening weather, setting off half cocked, underestimating difficulty and overestimating ability, etc., huminahumina

P.S. Most excellent: limpingcrab's witticism.

Stay too long.
Get divorced, with a bad attorney.

She did worse though... pissed off the judge.

Oh, but you kind of meant climbing. So then the answer is "experience? what's that...?"

It is easy to do a lot off dumb stuff, even if you are very experienced.
after more than 20 years of climbing experience : didn`t finish the knot before getting lowered off from the top of a sport-climb...hmmm....was after a night of heavy drinking...
last summer in the Alps,on a multi-pitch climb....forgot to clip myself in the belay before starting to belay my wife up to me....noticed it when she was on the last 15 m....got realy scared for a moment or two...thank god she didn`t notice it..

Bombin,

I totally agree, since I am guilty of making a "few" mistakes, over the years.

When you are young and inexperienced, it is perhaps more dangerous, since you lack the knowledge, gained from years of climbing.
