Beggin' your pardon, Sir Mike, but the "true" Rug Head finishes up the lieback flake just right of the Tree Route. You pitch from there, you really pitch.

strange as it may seem….. that's not how that problem goes..
It's certainly easier that way… but that's not the problem at all…
Luckily, climbing provides for rules not man made so you're golden. As long as you're climbing, that's all that matters.

Two of my favorite problems EVER are "The Slap" and "The Slope", both on the same boulder. Anyone have pictures of those gems?

Pay no attention to anything I say, but please keep climbing and taking photos and posting them here so I can see them… It is literally the only contact I have with climbing theses days.

Hate to point out the striking likeness, Mike A.: But back in your younger years you certainly looked like a dead ringer for George W. Bush, don't you agree?
I don't think anyone has done the "true, bona fide" Rug Head route since the FA back in the Dark Ages, mostly because it's too dang scary. Now, it's safely slipped into oblivion; that is, until dementia invades and takes over the hippo-campus and the brain goes dark forever.
Long before then, the South Skyline Property Owners Association and their Nature Nazi allies on the Portola Valley and Castle Rock Foundation may have eradicated climbing as a legitimate activity at Castle Rock anyway.

Interesting how Julie Grote, the president of the SSA, is also the president of the Portola Valley and Castle Rock Foundation. Money and property always speak first.
So there are plenty of good reasons to document named boulder routes up there.
