We had this handy place for KennyT to inform us over a possible rock removal in our sacred lil canyon, and then massed a response that could not be ignored by the powers that be. The USFS and Dist Ranger Genny Wilson to be exact..Due in large to the efforts put forth by users of this forum, the project will not happen..They now realize the importance of the natural beauty there.
Thanks Cmac,
Thanks KennyT
and Thanks to Dist Ranger Genny Wilson for being so responsive..
and thanks to all whom voiced their opinions. This IS how America should work. In this case, CMac was Ben Franklin, KennyT was Paul Revere and we were the well armed militia ready at the helm..
Ya see ST can be a useful tool, and very positive outcomes can arise from such nonsense as the intardweb.. Believe it,, support it.. That is all...
WORD!
What with all the censorship, bannings and dramas played out here recently
it can be a place that promotes awareness and creates positive results.
Big win for the Taco and the Woodfords team.
Ron you deserve some credit also, you led the crew in that firefight!

Thinking how nice it is that no rock permits will be given in our sacred canyon this am.. I dont know if it was just a dream, but i woke up with thoughts of pleased spirits from the past - in my sleep they were dancing round a large boulder .... Weird that was...
Yep Jeebs, got the official word from the Dist Ranger on friday..Due to OVERWHELMING opposition against it, the removal will not happen..
This was ALL DUE to this site. And the Users of this site. And imho, this is one of the best uses of this site. In the coming years this site will become a more critical player- if we use it smartly. Power to the people has NEVER been easier than now in the internet age. All it takes is a little focus and a little effort to achieve good things.
Ron, in the OP you gave a summary of what's gone down.
I'd be curious to see how that process unfolded here: can you please supply links to the pertinent threads?
Cheers,
Roy
*and Norwegian: I'm pretty much with you on the egalitarian front.
I just wanted to say "unicorns and glitter" because it so cracks me up!
Many of us responded to the links provided- in this case, to the Dist Ranger Genny Wilson as the contract officer for the project had retired.
Genny told me on the phone friday that she had received an over-whelming response against the project and that she was not going to allow the permit due to the many responses, all against the removal..
I use Ron to bounce ideas off of about skinning littler critters. Whatever he says, I will do the opposite. Joking. I look forward to some squirrel stew. Or maybe bbq? I'm thinking a honey mustard marinade, about 3 min each side?
We all use each other, now and again Moose..Now.. i will say that my name was mentioned to her more than once lol! Which is all good--since im a former FS type, perhaps that helped a little.. I did give her some ideas of where that sort of permit can be done without the disturbing of the most gorgeous canyon in her district.
Now of course,, this also puts the spotlight more onto climbers and climbing - so it will be important for us all to respect the canyon, the trails and the parking areas. If ya see some trash,, pick it up etc etc..
If you have a campfire,, make sure it is DEAD out before leaving, just simple common sense.
edit: Marinades, always good! And NEVER over cook wild game- it will get tough on you in a heartbeat!
