Ok then, case closed. (I have not bought a BD cam in many years.)

If they do they shouldn't. There is soo much waste generated from outdoor gear. I can't tell you how many useless plastic bags I had to throw away when I worked at REI. Piles and piles of trash on shipment days.
Sickening!
But hey, as long as people are getting out and enjoying/trashing the outdoors!

Weezy! Re your comment: don't throw away plastic bags they make great play toys for children.
Between our stash of plastic bags and my favorite childhood toy:
Johnny Bag Of Broken Glass,
visiting children here have hours of safe quiet fun.

BD gear never used to come in a plastic bag with silica gel, because they never used to ship the gear all the way across an entire ocean. Camalots, hexes and stoppers used to come from Ventura, then they came from Salt Lake City.
My typewriter doesn't have the proper keys to write out where BD gear comes from now.
The bag and gel trash issue might be the least of your worries,
because . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . Yer Gunna Die.

I hear ya. All that extra trash is a buzz kill.
This link gives some ideas on reusing silica gel packets.

FWIW, I've tried the tip about putting 'em on your dash to help prevent fogged up windows. It's work so far this winter in my carpool. Four warm bodies folded into a compact car for 30 minutes early in the morning. Those gel packs had their work cut out for 'em.

If the cams come directly from BD (direct purchase, pro-deal, etc), then yes, they come in those bags with the silica gel. I don't know if retail stores receive them the same way or not.

I'd pay extra for a bucket without that depressing picture of a drowning kid on it.

Hopefully everyone knows I'm kidding, Hence the warning shot. Just git yer kids a blow up pool, and melt the plastic bags.

At Nomad Ventures alllll that packaging gets stuffed inside itself and used to stuff backpacks.
We have some old packs in the closeout area with probably 10 year old Patagonia Clothing bags inside to stuff 'em up real big...
