I've been a fan of joe rogans podcast for awhile now, and have always appreciated to wide range of guests he has on. Honnold is scheduled to be on a 3pm pacific time on Ustream, and the iTunes link is usually up a few hours after it ends. Could be an interesting conversation.
alex gets a free fleshlight for appearing on the show.
can't wait to hear what that f*#king retard redban has to say. probably something like HHURRRR I DATED A STRIPPER ONCE DUYRRRRRRR. seriously, how'd that guy get his job?
i gotta admit, i felt kinda bad for redban on the show with maynard james keenan. he seemed like he's a pretty big fan of Tool and you could tell maynard just thought he was a moron. i remember brian asking him some question and mjk just looked at him and ignored his question.
Ya that would be a total trip for him at the UFC, with porn stars. Who the heck is the other guy, Joe Rogan's buddy on the show? Is he a porn movie producer or something?
I can't wait to listen to this tomorrow. Joe is such down to earth person that I figured there will be some new info coming out of Alex Honnold. Seems like there are good parallels between what Joe likes about MMA and what is great about climbing... We'll see. The Joe Rogan Experience is by far my favorite Podcast.
Does anybody on hear listen to The Enormocast? I follow that one as well and am always entertained
Keep in mind people... Joe isn't a climber but he's a 5.12 martial artist. Different strokes for different folks.
I've had Joe's balls in my face and can attest that he's more like a solid 5.13 grappler; he almost popped my head off. He's also a super nice dude, which I didn't count on being the case.
His turning side kick is incredible. GSP calls it the best he has ever seen; "If Joe hit some guy with that kick, that guy is going down hundred percent."
Yeah? Joe Rogan talking about a woman who was bitten by a spider and referring to her now as having a "hole in her hole". And castigating women who are in porn films as having "low moral values", while he nonetheless gets-off from watching them. Joe ought STFU when it comes to giving kids advice on how to live 'true'.
I was a little surprised that Alex hung 'round till the end of the interview. If it were round a campfire, I'd like to think Alex would have gotten-up and walked-off. Or at the least, spoken-out. I doubt Alex could have learnt much from that interview to enlighten his life in a meaningful way.
I'm pretty sure Alex did a little homework, and kind of knew what he was getting into, or maybe not.
Either way rogans basically a weed smoking comedian , who's day job is describing people trying to kill each other, and getting reality show contestants to drink donkey semen.
I thought he went a little easy on Alex, and that he seemed to enjoy himself after a bit.
I'm also pretty sure his sponsors didn't mind him being on a podcast that gets hundreds of thousands of listeners, the majority being males 18-30, and into mma and "extreme" sports.
This is a long interview - still at 1:44 right now. And I have to get to sleep for work..
I knew Honnald was well read and intellegent but I'm surprised how intellegent and well read Joe Rogan is. Rogan actually spends a little time talking about his own thoughts on epigenetics with out even knowing it.
It was interesting. I watched the first 50 minutes or so, hope to watch the rest later.
A favorite:
"(To the kids:) Do what you're drawn to… Whatever you're drawn to, go to that. (To Alex H:) What you do would make me sh#t my pants every day of the week. I have no desire. I don't ever look at mountains and go, Fuk, I need to climb that sh#t. Never. It's not in me. It doesn't appeal to me…. I'm so not into that. But I love the fact that you are. You know, I love the fact that people are so different. Whatever it is. Ones and zeros inside of your system make you look at a tree and want to fuking climb it. I don't know what it is, but it's awesome. It's shocking and it's weird but it's awesome."
Nice to hear these guys liked the film, Kick Ass, too. Because it was so out there, me too. :)
I think Alex and his family made a good call not having a TV while growing up. That is frigging gross. Belly full of donkey jizz for $50,000. No thanks.
Pretty blown away by this. Usually Honnold is a boring interview with a clueless and unable to understand interviewer. This case was awesome because you not only got to hear the standard fare, but also got to see deeper insight into the person and see him goofing around a bit. Very good interview/podcast
Last half of the interview sounded like a live version of some of the ST threads around here...pretty wild and all over the place. Extremely interesting.
Best line of the interview is for sure "When your life depends on it, no one wants to use hemp"
If you know much about Joe Rogan you know why this is funny. He is a huge proponent of smoking pot and the use of hemp in general.
He can be pretty out there, but for sure is an extremely intelligent person.
This interview is a strange mixing of worlds to me because Alex and Joe each represent the two major pursuits of my life. Climbing and MMA / Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (That's what my handle stands for: BJJ), each of which I have been passionately involved in for at least a decade each.
Funny sh#t. Definitely better than the average climbing interview. It's always funny hearing someone try to explain climbing, without using climbing terms to someone who hasn't the slightest clue about climbing. The climbing part of the interview was the most boring too.
It really was sort of a live rehash of a bunch of ST topics
It's really nice to see other people who are well read and interested in many things..
Rogan is my kind of guy..
This really was a gem of an interview - probably encapsulates a lot of reason why we are all here.
