As Susan says above, the thread grew creepy. The photos of very young appearing girls was inappropriate no matter what their actual ages were. Alhough some can argue with merit that the entire thread was creepy and inappropraite, the images portraying children rather than adults is what ultimately killed an otherwise silly thread.

Hi Anders, hope all is well.
I don't think that's a very robust objection or a good comparison.
I do think Anastasia's idea was a good one, it was pretty funny, and it clearly showed her common sense and warm humor. But the thread went on for too long - 2 or 3 posts would have been enough to make the point.

For those of you (middle aged males) squawking about censorship, 'art' and such, ask yourself whether you'd be comfortable seeing similar photos of women in your family, or female friends, posted here.
My first reaction to the thread was that Anastasia just started a tasteful, satirical diversion. I didn't follow it closely after that, precisely because my feelings on pictures of bare-breasted women are those implied by Anders' words, above. I am, after all, an older brother of sisters, and a father of daughters, with predictably protective instincts resulting. Besides I already caught the limit when I married my wife.
Most climbers I know, though, live life in accord with my personal credo: "If it's worth doing at all it's worth doing to excess," so I guess the creepiness to which others refer was inevitable. Still, I'm glad to see the proliferation of redundant threads diminished, because I'm lazy, and don't want to keep hitting "previous."
All in all, I'd say this episode actually had less vitriol than our typical January hate-fests, but I think t*r was right in her viewpoint.

and yes.. each one of those photos was of a real human being, actually someone's daughter, sister, mother or wife. Can't get past that.

Seemed like a no-brainer to me with the potential site liability for hosting child porn.

Thanks are probably in order for Ihateplastic as well. Without his repeatedly posting underage shots (or photos of girls who appeared underage) that thread would probably still be kicking. It was a self-nuke type of thing, and really f*#king creepy.

I had mixed feeling about the thread... It started to bother me when young girls were put in the mix.....

Laying the responsibility for thread bombs at the feet of t*r is disingenuous.
Well DMT I was not attempting to be disingenuous, which to me usually means a rather nasty "gotcha". I don't know what Russ did or didn't do on another thread. As stated, I feel torn about this whole complex issue. As a young woman I was a strident anti war protester (actually very radical...yes SDS and all that)...that spent more than a few nights in the clink because of my conduct. (And I didn't make bombs or rob banks). I don't regret most of it, but some I look back and wonder if I could have accomplished more being less bombastic.
I truly don't know if the ears were so deaf at ST admin that it required the action that took place. There are lots of varied opinions on it ... Some feel very strongly, some not so.
Obama said it well yesterday....."name calling is not reasoned debate".

I saw a spate of threads obviously concerning some drama I missed. After as deep a probing of my innermost thoughts as I could manage in 5 seconds, I am happy to report that I do not care :). Please, carry on. If it's truly important I am sure I will feel an impending sense of doom.

I don't know who started the thread bombs, but I do know that there was a big fight about them and people stopped using them. They were a problem at one time.
I do remember Russ had one of the biggest. That thing was massive. I was on dial up and my computer would freeze. LOL.. Its funny now, and was sometimes funny back then.

Stupid americans, so uptight about boobs. I'd be proud of any pics of friends or family in that thread. In fact I thought the best pictures in that whole thread were the ones posted of a significant other climbing and in a hot tub. What a cool chick! I love women who are comfortable with their bodies and not burdened by the hang ups so many have.
Of course if there were underage pics that's creepy and shouldn't be tolerated.
It sounds like tr was posting a bunch of threads in protest? That's lame. How hard is it to not click on a thread you know will bother you?
Tr seems like a beautiful and smart woman, but the constant self righteous, victim mentality of hers isn't helping anyone, especially her.

I didn't see all the pics in that thread but I'm sure some were silly, some tasteful, some were cheesy, some were creepy, etc. Anyone I know would have taken a fun or artful picture and I'm sure I'd be ok with it being posted as long as they were.
Too bad all the pics in that were not of women climbing topless. Three of my favorite things in the world.

Of course, if I was still a very young girl, I'd think differently too and empathize with...uhhh, T asterisk R ...I guess she's called, now asterisk2. She doesn't have a name I guess. Anyhow, she'll grow out of it - no worries.
