Not much preaching on the music thread, none needed:
music is the most Dionysian of the arts, since it appeals directly to man's instinctive, chaotic emotions and not to his formally reasoning mind.

Largo, I don't think it was as much about what she said as what she did. At least from what I've gleaned from the events that lead up to her ban. She did stuff to the thread that slowed down the entire website to a degree that it was damaging to ST as a whole. It resulted in the deletion of the thread and TR getting de-activated by admins as a result of her actions.
She's also Standing Strong, Tuolumne Rainbow, she has lots of handles here so I'm sure she'll be back.

"I'd like to hear the arguments condemning such a thread (which does NOT feature youngish looking women), and probe the psychological drivers behind the condemnation."
OK, here's a couple of arguments. I don't condemn the thread, but I don't think it needs to be here, either.
1. Whoever needs to see some boobs can easily scratch that itch without coming to Supertopo. What's the need for posting it here? Same goes for guns, political arguments, etc. There are few places to get quality discussion of climbing-related topics. When one group does a fit of wildly off topic posting, the others seem to think they have a license to do the same, and you end up with a million off topic posts, so that interesting climbing threads quickly get buried.
2. This kind of thread bothers some people who have climbing related contributions to make, and they sometimes leave due to all the heat and noise generated by the threads and their possible removal.
Well, I don't know if there's much to probe here, but perhaps I'm hiding things from myself.
OK, that's my last non-climbing related post ever. Reading and thinking about this stuff is a waste of my precious time. Why did I just spend 5 minutes on this stuff???

I find that interesting, as others have said it too. Did anyone actually experience a slowdown(other than annoyed people who had to remove their hands from their lap to use the scroll key to get to more tittie pics)?
My computer is running XP 2002, and is stuffed to the gills with photos. I often run out of space to perform actions when using Illustrator or Photoshop because my computer is so full and old. I cannot view YouTube at auto level, and even the lowest quality buffers quite a bit within many videos.
I was online during the nuke pictures and resultant blowback.I was also using my Verizon mobile broadband which is notorious for whimpering whenever there is so much as a cloud to block the signal(as is happening now), and saw ZERO loss in performance.

No.. its a misunderstanding of what a photo bomb does. In the olden days we had some pics that would overload a computer. They still exist, Russ has one, but computers are faster and handle them better. The modern way to bomb a thread is to post a whole lot of pictures in a row so that it takes forever to scroll through.. even if you use the page button. Its more frustrating then anything else and keeps people from using a thread. It becomes a control issue more then anything else.

Yeah, that's unlikely. There are two ways to include images in a post on ST:
1) Link to an image hosted elsewhere using the [img ... forum code
2) Use the image uploader to store the image at ST. The ST server then re-compresses the image into a few different (usually smaller) sizes
I didn't see the images in question, but in general, if you want to photo-bomb a thread you use technique #1 as using #2 will result in displaying smaller images which kinda defeats the purpose of the photo-bomb.
If the images are hosted elsewhere (technique #1) inserting images will have zero effect on the ST server and if #2 were used, the smaller file size would have a negligible impact. Using #1 can however have a significant effect on the client (your web browser), slowing down rendering and locking the browser up.

It's called a break, a breather, a moment to decompress from all the important and serious and grave things you have to accomplish in the next day or hour.
This site is a balm to many who find a quick escape from their normal life and can let it fly for a few minutes. Insisting that ST be the perfect equal of the real and important living we do in our normal lives is to rob some of us of the very reason we come here in the first instance - not to grind on serious maters, but to let all that go for a breath or two. And the idea that the value of this site is relative to how strictly we're roped to climbing themes and issues - this is a bad plan IMO. The heading of most posts lets us know the content. Click on climbing threads if that's what you want. There's always a bunch of them on page 1. Why concern yourself with what you don't like? And trying to police this crowd is like herding cats. You'll never pull it off.

The fact that her attempt to sabotage this site may not have been particularly successful is a pretty lame defense, if that's what you're getting at. She may have gone on to attempt something else (and her immediate signing up with a new avatar suggests she may not be the type to just let something go and move on--hopefully the site admins have their eyes on her IP and are on the lookout for anything suspicious. I suspect we may not have heard the last from her).

Summary: OMG, like there was this thread on this internet site that said "boobs" and I clicked it and like there were like tons of naked boobs. I couldn't believe it! I was like "ew, that's gross!" So I was all like, "I'm totally going to nuke that" because I can't stand when others find enjoyment from harmless pictures of naked breasts. After my childish bullshit affected site performance I was banned. I was all like "you can't do that to ME." So I was like "I know, I'll just get another account and rub it in their faces." And then I was like banned again. It's like totally not fair.
Women's bodies should not be looked at.
