I hear that people from Montana know grizzlies. But does a cloud of mace stop a charging 700 lb bear?

I've never had to use my bear spray on a bear yet, but I did use it on a charging cow moose. She slid to a stop and took off at top speed.
Neither guns nor bear spray are 100% effective in all situations. But according to the studies even if the bear attacks the severity of the attack will be reduced with bear spray.

I carry Counter Assault and I weigh the can occasionally to make sure it still has all the propellant. If I'm going somewhere with a high chance of a bear encounter I toss an extra can in my pack as a reserve. You can also buy inert cans to practice with, something I highly recommend.

Here is a shot of the 7 bears (two sows and 5 cubs) I encountered on the same mountain last year. I'm heading there tomorrow with my spotting scope so I can watch them from a safe distance.

Good to know. Also the possibility of sudden stop.

The Moraine Lake access mandarins did not require us to carry any gadgetry, but to travel in groups of 4 or more. We were only 2 but after a short wait at the warning sign we were offered protection:

Yeah those dominoes are cool. I thought about how that happened for a couple of seconds, then decided aliens probably did it. Pretty sure they came up with sliced bread too.

I quite like this walk off, even if it is riddled with buzz wurms. My partner walked right over one, and I saw it inches from standing on it, fortunately it wasn't coiled and was hauling tail to get off the trail.
