I saw some of the pics on the birds thread that dee de took with this camera. They say it has a zoom capability to 1200mm.
Any one else here have one, I am thinking of getting one and would trust some reviews from the ST.
Wondering if the range , 24mm to 1200mm might take away from the sharpness and focus.
Maybe get that Half Dome shot from the vally

Well, there ain't no free lunch, eh? But Dee ee's shots look pretty darn
good. Maybe not BrassNuts' quality but for a fraction of the investment
pretty darn good.

I just got one! So far it seems pretty awesome. The attached pic is from 5 miles away on a tripod at it's max zoom including digital zoom. Disclaimer; this was the sharpest from about 10 attempts - the slightest vibration can trow things off at that Mag. Should be able to see nose hairs on El Cap. I saw that Riley Wyna said looking at the screen made him dizzy. I find that I target things more easily using the viewfinder.
This is from this morning. I think it may be a juvenile Heron.
Super distance; The Olympics from Greenlake in Seattle - looking across Phinney Ridge district.

Bump for Da Moon at 50x,100x,and 150x with the SX50 on a tripod with 2 sec timer. Hand helds were as good at higher ISO. These are ISO 400,1/400@F6.5 Click photos.

Gee, thanks! I need another camera like Jimmy Carter needs more liver pills.
Those look great.
The first thing I did with my Nikon P-500 was to point it at the moon.

Here's one from earlier in the evening that is hand held at 1600 ISO. You can see more noise but it's amazing it can do it. I probably could have hand held at much lower ISO since there's so much light.

Shot with SX50 HS at 1200mm braced on top of day pack.
For an inexpensive point and shoot style camera the SX50 HS takes a pretty incredible image! Highly recommend it for backcountry use where weight is a consideration.

Man those are really good shots. This thing is looking pretty sweet..
I would like to hear from Slater, I think his bird pics first made me aware of this rig.
It cool that it has all the settings for speed and apeture and ISO
Dimes,,
How far away were you on that last shot of the sheep?
Great shot!
?
Does any one have a photo taken at 24mm with this camera?

Here you go. This is dialed all the way down to 24mm I think. It's just a snap I took when I first got it at Xmas. OOPS! The 24mm is the 2nd shot below. . It's Shilshole Marina looking across Puget Sound to the Olympics, and then from the same day lower down at the marina;
The Space Needle from 5 miles away - semihandheld w night scene mode.

Can you put polarizing lenses and stuff on the lens? Or are those built in.

Where did you shoot the space needle with fireworks from?
I ask because I had pretty much that view from my yard on New Year's Eve. I live a little over 5 miles from the Needle, but all I had that night were my eyes, and they don't really have the optical zoom feature.

That's funny. It was from a bedroom window up above the north end of Greenlake - 5 miles away. Camera has a fireworks mode but I was not familiar. I have not even tried the Miniature effects yet.

180 degrees. So it's a good thing all those fireworks were lighting things up, because otherwise you'd have been shooting straight into my window.
No sh#t. If I draw a line from my place (in West Seattle), through the space needle, it carries on right through the north end of Green Lake.

Hey Mc Hale's Navy,
Are you using a tripod, or any of the anti-shake functions?

I posted moon pics with and without tripod but tripod is good for lower ISO and more detail. Image stabilizer is in play for sure.

This looks like an awesome camera. Any of you using it know of it's capabilities in low light settings with slower shutter speeds? One application I would like to use it for would be photographing aurora.
