Yep, I'm one of those goobers you see at the crags with that silly camera on his head.

With that out of the way, I'm curious to see if any of you other climbers are using a GoPro or related camera to take footage of climbing?

Besides being in the way while climbing, and getting made fun of all the time, the footage is actually pretty sweet sometimes...

Here's a music video I just finished:

Here's a timelapse I made (all GoPro):

Also, here's a link to one of the cooler falling videos I've found on youtube (not me):

GoPro's are fun, and worth the dork look just to get to watch them later. Here's the only climbing one I made, but I already put this on a TR

Here are two others I made just for fun

Edit: great videos by the way. Steve B (yosemitesteve), who makes videos for the parks, said that a chest mount can get great climbing footage, but I haven't tried that yet.

Limpingcrag - those are awesome!!

I think that creative editing (like yours in the Snake Dike vid), can make climbing footage significantly more exciting...

What program are you using? The super slow-mo of the cliff jumps looked fantastic.

I used Final Cut Pro, and the Twixtor plug-in for the super slow motion. They're both expensive and more complicated than I like, but a friend gave them to me for free.

Next up, white water tubing video this spring!

Turn off the 3D if you dont have 3D!!
And crank up the resolution.

Amateur stuff, but the 3D got us a licensing deal with NBC Universal

YouTube was one of the very first distribution options for 3D. It has been around for 2 years! They also are 4K res capable.

Leave it to a google owned company to be ahead of the curve

I totally agree, I feel like a complete dork with my go pro out when climbing, but have a lot of fun watching and editing videos after the fact. Here's one from a weekend last fall in utah[Click to View YouTube Video]

Prickle, that song is "White Lies - Death, Chase and Status Remix" - it's a banger isn't it!?

Cool videos folks - keep em coming! There's been some great creativity in some of these vids. Awesome editing too. Does anyone use Deshaker for their clips? That seems to be the only thing I could find to stabilize the image a little bit...

It's probably fun to play with, but the footage from those things is basically unwatchable to the people who didn't film it.

These things are for f*#king noobs… I should get one. LOL

Seriously though, seems like something that could be nice to have on a few memorable climbs with exposure/views. Ancient tower for example is a great spot for it.

I'm waiting for the GoPro footage from the gyms to start showing up. Bound to be better than the outdoor footage because instead of a schitzo view of trees and rocks, you'd get steady cam shots of every hot ass in the place, bookended with sportsbraction.

sportsbraction.

I like it. Hands down the best climbing jargon out there.
