Emerson is not too bad. He has a cat door that is open 24/7 so I never have to get up and open doors for him. He is completly free to come and go as he pleases. There is NO LITTER BOX! he always goes outside even in winter and has the decency to bury it. He does a little bit of work killing the occasional rodent.. but yes he is still a fairly accomplished freeloader:)

Happie. I am probobly a bit biased in that obsevation as I am a guy so I hear the guys end of the story all the time. Additionaly I work in the horse show world which is 98% women and they all have dogs. Watching thousands of divorced women interact with their dogs and men all summer may have influenced my thoughts on this matter. It was not however intended as women bashing. Simply an observation on how humans behave.

Then again I did read a stat on yahoo a few days ago that 72% of divorces are initated by women so perhaps I am not that far off base?

Additionaly I have never heard of a wife complaining that they have to sleep on the couch and the dog gets to sleep in bed with the wife. Haveing heard several husbands with that gripe leads me to believe that perhaps I am on to something here;)

Regarding the divorce thing - studies have shown that men are less likely to leave a marriage they are unhappy in than women are. The men tend to just tune out and ignore the issues, whereas the women tend to not accept unhappy situations.

And you may not see what you were saying as women-bashing, but as a woman, I can tell you it absolutely came off that way. If I heard a man talk like that in person, I would give wide berth to that guy.

Happie. I am NOT giveing the guys a free pass by any means. The men are bad, the women are a bit worse than the men in this regard. Not women bashing just an obsevation.. go ahead a shoot the messenger if it makes you feel better..

If I were married, the Wife had damn well better treat the Dog better than she treats me. Because I can take care of myself, but the Dog needs human support.

Dogs aren't freeloaders. They give love.

Maybe you don't appreciate the love that they give, but obviously others do.

Sounds more and more to me like you are jealous. Though I do agree with you that some people do treat their dogs better then they treat other people, but then dogs don't create the same kinds of problems that people do.

Women care more about a dog then the husband? You're surprised? The order of importance is:

1. Kids
2. Me
3. House
4. Car
5. Furniture
6. Stove
7. Refrigerator

And so on. The husband is somewhere above a door stop, but below a roll of paper towels.

Still, it's not a bad life.
