Tony is SLACKING on his job...

That's not like Tony...

He must have a HEADACHE or something...

Understandable, considering the size of it...

"Who ordered pizza?"...

Is that a question for Tony???...

If so, you should address it as such, out of RESPECT...

Something along these lines...

"Hey Tony, who ordered pizza???"...

See...

that's the PROPER way to ask...

Tony reports:

my wife and i were fortunate to pull a freebie this morning and attend a rehearsal of the l.a. philharmonic. we were told they would rehearse gustav holst's "the planets", and we figured that would be all they would do. we got seats in the center balcony at disney hall. everything was happily informal, with the musicians showing up in sweatsuits and jazzercise outfits, and we settled in to listen to one of mariko's favorite pieces of music--she especially likes the movement devoted to jupiter.

the orchestra seemed a bit thin for this dazzling piece, and their first number, which i surmised to be a rather long and nondescript "mercury", left us hungering for more exciting planets. then a tall guy with very long hair strode onto the stage--kinda looked like paganini--and proceeded to play the violin. hmmm, i thought. didn't know holst featured a violin on one the planets. maybe the violin is supposed to represent the sun, shedding light on everything else.

this fellow was technically amazing, but i still wasn't recognizing any planets. they proceeded through three more unfamiliar planets, and then there was polite applause from us freebs up in the balcony, and all the musicians walked off the stage. our friend who got us in to the rehearsal, a disney hall tour guide, said they were probably taking a break. mariko hadn't heard her beloved "jupiter" yet, so we figured there were several planets to go.

then we get ahold of a shard of a program. we had just listened to eight russian folk songs arranged for orchestra and then the prokofiev violin concerto, performed by a world class artist, leonidas kavakos, on a 1724 strad.

"the planets" came after the break, the orchestra was twice as big, and it was wonderful. i'm trying to enjoy the concerto in retrospect, but it isn't easy.

My questions to Tony:

1. WHO was BEHIND the scenes?
2. WHO made you think that the first performance was The Planets?
3. Have you spotted any ANTENNAE on the musicians?
4. Was anything MISSING when you came back home?
5. Did your head appear SMALLER when you came home?
6. Are you the Mac?

the answer given above applies to all the questions, zb. it's pretty comprehensive. you may have to enlarge your head a bit, but locker can help you with that.

i do have a special poem just for sullly, not written by emily dickinson:

may his pig never grunt, may his cat never hunt,
may a ghost ever haunt in the dead of the night
may his hens never lay, may his horse never neigh
may his goats fly away like an old paper kite

that the flies and the fleas may the wretch ever tease
and the piercin' march breeze make him shiver and shake
may the lump of a stick raise the bumps fast and thick
(on the monster that murdered nell flaherty's drake)

may his spade never dig, may his sow never pig
may each hair on his wig be well-thrashed with the flail
may his door have no latch, may his roof have no thatch
may his turkeys not hatch, may the rats eat his meal

may every old fairie from cork to dunleary
dip him snug and merry in river or lake
that the eel and the trout, they may dine on the snout
(of the monster that murdered nell flaherty's drake)

alas, a tad bucolic, but such are my tastes. i do recommend it to those who resort to redundancy of words automatically altered by the supertopo website program in venting spleen here. you can learn from the irish. they have a way with the english language that puts the english to shame.

Hey TONY ...

When will it end?

Tony Bird

climber
Northridge, CA
Jan 12, 2013 - 07:23am PT
oh yes, that distractive thread. you have to understand the history of its genesis. it all began with tom cochrane's post on the sandy hook discussion. tom raised my eyebrows with that as well--he's usually far more low-key on here, and he immediately drew a barrage of scorn and contempt. healyje lost all respect for him. that later led me to lose all respect for jeebus, who posted a photograph of himself drinking MGD. jeebus, some time later, lost all respect for me because i had watched and enjoyed rio sex comedy. i surmise that jeebus watched it, but did not enjoy it.

anyway, our dear anastasia was quite upset by this realignment of the major gravitational influences on supertopo. another direct result seems to have been the disappearance, or at least a significant subdual of, graniteclimber. all these events were precipitate by tom's post on 12/21/12, the ending date of the maya long count, and i'm trying to figure out if i missed the partition of our apparent universe into other parallel universes and/or dimensionalities, such as has been discussed in certain circles of advanced physics and new age speculation. as portia once put it, my little mind grows weary.

now anastasia's boobs thread has performed an important function on supertopo. in ways that dr. F is not capable of, she had drawn an entire cortège of off-topic regulars and keeps them sufficiently mesmerized to allow other subjects to prosper. once again we've got good discussions about evolution going, and i think we have her to thank for it.

another question, zumBeispiel? you have to go to locker for "an operation". and, sorry, i don't do links, unless you've managed to interest me in them. again, get the operation.

i thought anastasia taught at a university. you don't need credentials for that, just a phd. you can never lose one of those, once you earn it. and if you get tenure ...

i'll be she's working it into a fieldwork project on male response to soft porn in a nonpornographic setting. you'll find chrismac just as vulnerable to that as the rest of our gender. i'll just bet anastasia is in the sociology department.

Do you THINK they believe it WILL be the difference between success and failure???...

Tony I have 8 possible device choices for booting. The first 4 are
this, 1. *Diskette Drive 2. CD/DVD/CD-RW 3. Card Bus Nic 4. Internal
HDD. Take a look at these prior to the questions.

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

Questions from diagrams. Take note of *Dock.
1. What is a Security Cable?

2. Where is it showing?

Facts for boot device questions. The 1'st 4 are set in order
as are in paragraph 1. Here are the next 4 choices in order.
1. C/Port 11 or C/Dock 11 NIC
2. C/Dock or C/Dock 11 top PCI slot NIC
3. C/Dock 11 bottom PCI slot NIC
4. Mini PCI NIC

Questions from facts.
1. Is *Dock referring to Express Cards?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard

From the same wiki page,
PCMCIA devices can be connected to an ExpressCard slot via an adapter

2. Is Dock bootable if a USB can be adapted to it?
3. Is there such a adapter?
4. What is C/Port?
5. Is Cardbus Nic the pcmcia side slots?
6. If 5 is yes will it boot a USB stick? See next fact.

1 in paragraph 1 is now CMOS "Diskette Drive A:" showing "Modular Bay" and its a 1.44 meg floppy.

Can a large modular bay hard drive fit in there and is there such for fitting?

Tony im adding clarity and asking questions because i want to
possibly add a large bootable hard drive and boot from a USB
stick. Dell documentation is not clear enough for me.

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

10 the Modular bay currently shows automatically in CMOS as "Diskette Drive A: Modular Bay".
Currently the Modular bay is a 1.44 meg floppy drive.
Automatically and currently CMOS shows "Diskette Drive B: Not attached".
From the previous post note the boot order 1."Diskette Drive" and 4. "Internal HDD"->(Hard Disk Drive).

Can a large Hard Disk Drive be read, written, executable and bootable from the Modular bay?

Credit: NoTokeRedKneck

5. is listed as Docking connector. Please refresh your memory by looking at the previous posted boot options.

Is 5. C/Dock?

What is C/Port? I can't find it within the Dell documentation.

What is Cardbus NIC? Is a network interface required for booting from this?

What is Mini PCI Nic? "Same as above?"

A USB stick will not boot from either USB port, however i did have the modular bay attached.

Can a USB stick be booted by adaptation to 5. or "8. in the previous post"?

If i detach the Modular bay will a USB stick boot as Diskette Drive?
NoTokeRedKneck

climber
Mar 1, 2013 - 02:48pm PT
Tony in case you or others have looked at some CMOS settings noted.
If you attempted to duplicate some I posted you do not need to fdisk,
disklabel, re-format or reinstall to bring back network settings or
default music sounds -> crock(Yes, i know some are not relevant to the sound.)

Here are the current CMOS BIOS settings.

Pg:1of7 CMOS BIOS.
Diskette Drive A: Modular Bay (This is a automatic setting.)
Modular Bay: Diskette Drive (This is a automatic setting.)
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive: Fixed Optical

Pg:2of7 CMOS BIOS. (These are all manual settings in this order.)
Diskette Drive
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
Internal HDD
Modular Bay HDD
Cardbus NIC
C/Port 11 or C/Dock 11 NIC
C/Dock or C/Dock 11 top PCI slot NIC
C/Dock 11 bottom PCI slot NIC
Mini-PCI NIC

Pg:3of7 CMOS BIOS.
Docking Status Undocked (This is a automatic setting.)
Docking Ethernet Enabled (This is a manual setting.)
Docking IRQ OPTIMIZED (This is a manual setting.)
Universal Connect Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

Pg:4of7 CMOS BIOS.
MiniPCI Device Combo (This is a automatic setting.)
MiniPCI status Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

Again why i posted the previous questions is,
1. I want to boot a USB stick without a remote network connection.
2. I may wish to install a large Module Bay Hard Disk Drive and boot from that.
3. As with many if not most Lap Tops they are limited to USB 1.0 speeds
at the USB ports so to use USB 2.0-3.0 etc. i think i need a firewire to
USB adaptation from the firewire port showing in the above diagram(s) but
i don't see a boot option for that.

Again Tony or any others.
1. How can i boot a USB stick on this system from the pg.2of7 showings?

2. I assume 2. above i answered myself with showing of boot option 4 on pg.2of7.

3. Can i boot from the firewire port? If so what boot option on pg.2of7 is it?

I would not be asking if i knew and Dell's tech manual for the system has nothing about this.

MiniPCI status Enabled (This is a manual setting.)

The above is a correction to pg.4of7 in the previous post.

Hey Tony ...

if you see moss, which side of the tree on you on?

That maybe a good question? As of 2002-2003 it was assumed commercially
internally linked list were still being used. At that time it was
common to have class member functions for pre-order,post-order and
in-order transversals of the trees. I was told or read they are not
using the transversal functions anymore, maybe because log() issues
degenerating back to linked list are already known.

Using IEEE 1394 firewire should be of no issue to the monitor on this
system. The issue is which one or which one of those BIOS boot options
is for the firewire port? I dont want to spend money for a cable, drive,
or adapter for a bootable USB stick if it won't adapt and boot via
the firewire port.

Another issue is the Dock slot and pcmcia card slots. I believe these
can also adapt to USB 2.0 and + but again what is the BIOS boot option(s)
for these slots and the above shown on pg.2of7 previously posted?

just wanna let you guys know--i'm about to nuke this sucker. it has become silly to the point of obscene. you may want to save your precious contributions and repost them in a more appropriate thread. suggested title: thomas the tank engine and his boxcars.

sheesh--come down with the flu for a few days and your thread goes to heck.
