The worst part is those climbers should know better.
Bad form.

Thanks for posting this Bryan.

After topping out from a mapping mission up Zodiac this fall, we encountered this at the summit:

We bumped into the responsible climber on the way down. She was very apologetic and I do not wish to call her out. I just want to make the point that leaving haulbags full of garbage on top of El Cap is (unfortunately) fairly common. I also encountered another mess up there on a similar scale to what Bryan posted after topping out on New Dawn this summer and another massive pile of garbage on top of the Prophet. 3 times in one year? Are you kidding me?

It really surprised me to see this given all of the support the climbing community seems to give to Jesse, Ben, and the wilderness restoration teams who have been breaking their backs cleaning up El Cap.

Your mothers are not here...clean up after yourselves!

The good news is that decades of encouraging environmental awareness has developed the nearly universal opinion that littering on top of ElCap is bad.

But not bad enough to actually merit acting responsibly or intelligently.

Thanks for the post and the reminder. What a mess, and for sure a negative impact for climbers and the bear in many ways.

I hate the shot of that fire pit as well. I know some people who do the sh#t bag burn trick, and I just don't agree with it. You never get all of it, and burning sh#t smells horrible and the scent will linger for days.I haven't been on a wall yet so I have to ask: Is it really that hard to carry a well-constructed poop tube down with you and dump it in the trash?

Yosemite Walls deserve better than this.

I always thought you had to hold YOURSELF to a higher standard.
