Hey man,
Just hooked up with Jeremy for the first time to go climbing. I found him fun, funny, dependable, motivated, crazy and reasonably safe. We had an excellent adventure, I don't want to reveal more because its not finished yet. But I think its pretty proud to meet up with a dude for the first time and go out and fire off an FA . . .
Jeremy is a lifer, just like many who post here. It isn't hard to tell a climber turned internet lurker, from an internet lurker turned climber. Real climbers like Jeremy tend to be a bit antisocial. We just don't get social interaction sometimes, and the internet adds a whole new dimension to that.
Climbers like to keep it real. So not being honest about who you are and not owning your sh!t (the topic of the other thread) rubs some of us the wrong way.

My two cents.
I don't know why Jeremy took a disliking to Burchey. I figured that there was some history there that I didn't know. I also didn't know why people liked Jeremy except he seemed to be a good climber who people liked in person and he posted good trip reports. Lke mechrist, I saw him talk a lot of sh#t, so it was a bit confusing to me why people liked him so much. Ekat liked him, Bruce liked him and others liked him, so I just ignored the crap talk and eventuallyI saw some of what he posted as humorous. But it is a hard humor to understand without knowing the background.
If he is a good guy, then I'm sorry that he left. But I do agree with burchey and mechrist that he was talking sh#t. I didn't see anything that burchey did that warranted some of the responses that Jeremy gave, so none of this is making a whole lot of sense, except that I think some people are jumping to conclusions without really knowing. That, or they have history from other forums.
I also think that people didn't understand when someone was joking, such as some of Burcheys attempts at humor. I misread peoples joking tone often. Its hard to read between the lines sometimes when you don't fully know the players and you don't know their sense of humor.

I quite enjoy Jeremy's energy and spirit, and his trip reports, and it's nice to find them here.
As for the whole mud thing, well, Aslaksen can be translated to mean (roughly) "son of ash lad". It may seem a bit odd (aren't we all?), but is understandable. Who wouldn't want to climb such cool-looking towers, even if they're geologically temporary?

I had nothing against Jeremy, in fact I kind of liked him... although I never read any of his famous mud wrestling TRs. He was slinging sh#t, so I joined in the fun. Then this whole tizzy thing happened. I think it is entertaining, so... here I am. I get a kick out of people who take themselves seriously... especially those who dish out sh#t and can't take it.
Take Russ for example... anyone and everyone is fair game for him to pick on, but if you poke fun at him you get a life long companion. It doesn't get much more fun than that.
Respect is something you earn... I've done nothing to earn your respect... so any respect you lost for me was misplaced to begin with.

So I just went back and read the thread that started all this, and I can't for the life of me figure out how I got blamed for Jeremy pulling his sh#t. I figured I must have said something... as I usually do... but, turns out I didn't. Someone mentioned "the kid" and I thought he was referring to The Kid... but Jeremy slammed me and moved on... so it's a moot point. If I did have anything to do with it (which I didn't) then he is a huge pussy (which he clearly isn't).
It wouldn't be that big of deal, but I don't really enjoy the threats of violence... here or via email. I really don't want to start packing heat to the crag... do email threats count as a "good cause" for getting a CCW permit?
Anyway, a good number of you should pull your heads out of your asses and get them checked (survival, WTF, skullfuker, etc). Unfortunately for you, I don't dish out a bunch of sh#t and then run away when someone gives it back to me. If you don't like it, fuking ignore me.

I had never heard of this Mechrist dude, but he sure does sound angry.

When Jody came back here I found him just plain mean. Mechrist sounds just plain mean. I know that Weschrist was mean.
I presume that you people are adults. A mean adult is somebody with some issues. They can be forgiven if you know the circumstances which led to it, but this Mechrist guy just sounds like a jerk.
My advice is to ignore him. Don't respond to any of his posts because he is just baiting everyone. Check in on him in five years and see if he has grown up and become a man.
I was a real prick when I was young. I regret it, and have apologized to a number of old friends and acquaintances over the years. It is easy to be an as#@&%e. It is much more difficult to be constructive.
I thought Jeremy was pretty funny and had good TR's. Sorry that pricks made him leave.

Jeremy's TRs were rad, I'm sad they're gone. He wrote them with so much psyche & awesome photos of him, his buddies, babes & beers in wild places having real adventures. His other posts were sometimes funny & yes quite redundant but when you read his TRs you knew it was just a quirk of his personality & that he was just fukin around. Something really pissed him off with burchey & it seemed like he kind of lost it, even on some people who didn't really seem deserving of the treatment. I got nothing against burchey but I find it hard to believe that there's not something more between them we aren't hearing, but not like its any of our business anyways. Too bad Jeremy felt that it was worth nuking all of his awesome sh#t over & bailing but I'm glad I got the chance to see most of it. Thanks dude, put your link up & I'll click on it!

After re-reading the drama thread (zzzz), Jeremy DOES seem like a nice guy. He PROBABLY shouldn't be on the internet, though. It's like my dad, I love him, but he isn't allowed to have a facebook account just like I'm not allowed in a pie shop.
Message boards are an amalgamation of a hundred other forms of communication and language - intent, sarcasm, wordplay, inside jokes, differeing senses of humor, the average 6th grade intelligence rock climbers have.... we are just BOUND to cross some lines. If you are a person that when you have your line crossed you get this upset... internet may not be a good hobby, and I mean that honestly, with all the love in the world. Sometimes I have to peel myself off too.
When I see Burchey I see a charater, like from a Rodney Dangerfield movie. I don't think one of his posts have elicited any reaction beyond a chuckle. With Wes, its almost like he is poking people to see how they reach. Imagine your best friend saying it, and its kind of funny.
I may be one of the youngest people here but I would toss my name in the hat of 'spent the most time in the community talking online.' I started in middle school with AIM, typing 6 windows at at time, then myspace, MMORPG's, and finally message boards... I feel like I know how to communicate my thoughts, yet about half get misinterpreted.
There is no fix, Jeremy should go climbing. Just like there is no fix for kids shooting up our schools. It WON'T change, it WON'T go away, so just live with our inconsistencies. Charlton isn't leaving his rifle from his cold dead fingers, and Jeremy will always think that the opinions of as#@&%es matter. Can't help that. Lets move on, k?

it's funny how everything gets spun to having some kind of negative connotation... this is just my opinion, DMT. zoom out, look with big perspective, does it matter that jeremy is on ST...? No. It really doesn't. His life is a lot, lot, LOT bigger than that. not me, it's all I got going for me, lol. But he doesn't need it - it will only put him in front of people who he will feel are being dickheads. In reality, they probably aren't huge dickheads but just people, too - but that communication gets lost. The language doesn't work. So, its best if these two don't see eachother.
I know. Kind of an anti-hippy philosophy, that you should just separate people who don't like each other. But I know that this bullshit doesn't mean anything, and rock climbing/friends/family do.

Locker, the way I see it, Jeremy probably just had a bad day and didn't want to deal... or maybe Burchey actually did do those things to his mom. Either way, he decided to make his own site, which is really the way to go anyway. Unfortunately the fanboy club couldn't handle his absence so they started jumping to conclusions and blaming anyone and everyone they could WITHOUT EVEN READING THE THREAD IN QUESTION. Makes perfect sense... some people just can't handle the intardweb. Nothing against Jeremy, but he might want to consider the mental stability of those he associates with.

I liked Jeremy's Tr's and laughed at some of his sarcastic comments. It is hard to tell sometimes the tone of a post, but it always seemed playful, which led me to believe he was just fvcking around. Until I saw him interacting with Burchey. He seemed quite serious but didn't really make it very clear to others as to why? I think he called him a troll in one post, and from what I gather from others it was one that has plagued the taco before.
So which is it TheGeetz=Burchey? Are you really a noob or troll as some others have said. I am smart enough to realize that hearsay is just that. So which is it Adam?

I jump on bandwagons sometimes. Ron A got a lot of sh#t from me before the election on the Retarded Political Thread. It was fun. Mean at times? Yes. Did I ever take things personally? No. Did Ron take my vitriol personally? Ask him, but I think not.
Jeremy should keep on talking sh#t in good humor and haters should hate 1/10 of 1% less. The world would be a better place.

Hey Big Mike,
I believe that you are, senor.
This Burchey account that I had was the first ST account I've ever had. I try to always use that name (unless I get canned) so there's no mystery. I've been going up mountains for several years, rock climbing for a few, and doing moderate technical routes for slightly less than that. I'm still learning every time I go out, so in that way I'm a noob.
To me, a troll only makes digs/starts arguments. I don't think that's me at all. I try to start thoughtful threads as well as goofy OT ones that make you think. I don't stray away from arguing in a civil manner, and I kindly return whatever attitude I receive. I have a very strange sense of humor, which I think is the main reason I get into trouble online. I really don't know what set Jeremy off, but he did seem serious about not liking what I was typing. Once he started grinding me, I definitely gave it back to him. Didn't know him from Adam before that.
I have high hopes for the Taco, because in addition to having some serious climbing talent online, there are also a bunch of wackjobs with odd senses of humor, and I love the photoshop stuff making fun of other users. I really thought it would be more my speed, unlike the Whitney Portal board I got tossed from early in my mountain days - my style really doesn't jive there. Ken M. can most likely concur, I think he and I went back and forth a little bit in those days. Nice people though. Doug is a champion.
It's good to see that there are some skeptics. I always ask for examples when I'm "called out". I usually don't get examples in return. YOu know how it goes. Anyway, take it easy mang. Hopefully Jeremy comes back for you guys - he's got a lot of fans.

When you are new on a forum and an unknown quantity, this is not a good idea. Even if you my be right, you aren't right.
On the taco its better to introduce yourself and establish some sort of bonafides. Do you love climbing. Do you love the outdoors. If so, then express that and maybe prove it by giving a trip report and or showing appreciation for others efforts. Those who share the love tend to be forgiven their quirks faster then those who just want to ride the hate/need attention train.
Fair or not.. thats the way it is.
If you want to stick around, then try to mend some fences and don't piss off the natives.

You don't have to change who you are, you just have to respect the lay of the land. Thats no different from respecting the outdoors. Hey Jeremy,
Yeah, understand your frustration over some of the Supertopo posters. Through insecurity or sometimes malicious intent they just post, post post, usually about themselves, polite and humble until attacked, then vicious and whiny and then they post even more about how they a have been unfairly treated. Poison. Passive-Aggresive nonsense.
The best of the Supertopo content, gnarly trip reports (yours being some of the funnest, best and actually about hard, new routes) and historical stuff that can be found nowhere else and even the sense of community that still kind of exists here, gets buried under the endless landslide.
One answer is to walk away. Which you've done. They can never do that, they are stuck, struggling with their dysfunctional ways their whole lives.

I've seen survivals posts around before and he's not in the Fatty/blurring/LEB/blahblahblah category, so he was still potentially a decent guy in my book. It is sad when people can't admit they misunderstood the situation or overreacted. It is all there on the forum to be reviewed...

I've climbed one of his routes near the Fisher's. A couple pitch variation that didn't pan out for them higher up, but it was stout and put up in the style that should be emulated in that kind of desert setting.

Just spoke to Jeremy an hour or so ago. He's nursing a torn something-or-other in his finger which caused him to bail on our El Cap plans. However, he's thinking his finger will be good to go in a few months, so Fisher's here we come - with a detour to El Cap for me!!

Mario Richard and I did the Forrest/Briggs Indirect on the Citadel last March in the Mystery's. I led and Mario cleaned, took about 8 hours without short-fixing. Then we took the fast way down, ha ha.
They did a good job with their variation, no drilling in between belays.
I've been on an obscure kick, lately. So, no real plans for the Valley. Hope to see you in the desert.
