An important member of this forum (a little bird) told me that Jeremy had deleted all his stuff.
Wow, just wow.
Guess I haven't been paying attention. I did a minor surf on the "Wait, aren't you on the taco?" I didn't read everything. I will when I have time.
It appears that at least Mechrist, Burchey and Vitaly were piling on.
I know Jeremy personally. He's been on this board a long time.
He's a bad ass and brave climber. He's also a good friend. He likes to have fun and talk a little smack, but the vast weight of his activity here has been fun, positive and climbing related.
He has put up how many trip reports about first ascents that he and Paul Gagner have done? He climbed Zenyatta for his first attempt on El Cap.
I have personally put up five trip reports about climbs that Jeremy and I have done.
Now he's gonna be run off by a couple people I've never seen climbing content from. At least I've seen many TRs from Vitaliy.
Phuk that sh#t. I'll bail before I let these people who don't even post climbing content run off Jeremy without calling them on it.
I concur 100%.. Jeremy loves to get his quips in, and they are always meant with a tongue in cheek flavor- at least thats the way ive seen it. His testicular fortitude is well, he climbs MUD! Far beyond my sackage..

He's actually probably the smartest out of all of us - climbing more instead of wasting his time posting.
I hope he realizes that there are still plenty of pictures of him online (thanks google) - ripe for photoshopping onto pictures of penises and the like.

Just hooked up with Jeremy for the first time to go climbing. I found him fun, funny, dependable, motivated, crazy and reasonably safe. We had an excellent adventure, I don't want to reveal more because its not finished yet. But I think its pretty proud to meet up with a dude for the first time and go out and fire off an FA . . .
Jeremy is a lifer, just like many who post here. It isn't hard to tell a climber turned internet lurker, from an internet lurker turned climber. Real climbers like Jeremy tend to be a bit antisocial. We just don't get social interaction sometimes, and the internet adds a whole new dimension to that.
Climbers like to keep it real. So not being honest about who you are and not owning your sh!t (the topic of the other thread) rubs some of us the wrong way.

They usually climb fairly strong. They usually bark pretty loud, not a whole lot of coherence in the posts, but plenty of failed-logic and swear words. Often they aren't that tall. The insecurity is usually pretty obvious as well. Just call me the profiler.

I don't know why Jeremy took a disliking to Burchey. I figured that there was some history there that I didn't know. I also didn't know why people liked Jeremy except he seemed to be a good climber who people liked in person and he posted good trip reports. Lke mechrist, I saw him talk a lot of sh#t, so it was a bit confusing to me why people liked him so much. Ekat liked him, Bruce liked him and others liked him, so I just ignored the crap talk and eventuallyI saw some of what he posted as humorous. But it is a hard humor to understand without knowing the background.
If he is a good guy, then I'm sorry that he left. But I do agree with burchey and mechrist that he was talking sh#t. I didn't see anything that burchey did that warranted some of the responses that Jeremy gave, so none of this is making a whole lot of sense, except that I think some people are jumping to conclusions without really knowing. That, or they have history from other forums.
I also think that people didn't understand when someone was joking, such as some of Burcheys attempts at humor. I misread peoples joking tone often. Its hard to read between the lines sometimes when you don't fully know the players and you don't know their sense of humor.
I'd say the height of weak sauce is posting all that bold sh#t for others to enjoy, and then taking it all back. If he didn't post it for others, who did he post it for? He threw a wobbler, simple as that. There are obviously plenty of people who enjoyed his contributions, and he took that way from them because some douche bags swore back at him on the internet? Really?

His absence hasn't affected me at all... I don't like climbing on mud.. never have, never will. I don't read trip reports because the only thing more boring than watching climbing is reading about someone else climbing. So really, all he did is adversely affect the people who appreciated him.

I quite enjoy Jeremy's energy and spirit, and his trip reports, and it's nice to find them here.
As for the whole mud thing, well, Aslaksen can be translated to mean (roughly) "son of ash lad". It may seem a bit odd (aren't we all?), but is understandable. Who wouldn't want to climb such cool-looking towers, even if they're geologically temporary?

Yes Kenny, this is a HUGE waste of time. Anyone who thinks differently should have their head checked. I don't get involved in the TRs because there is no reason for it. So I just went back and read the thread that started all this, and I can't for the life of me figure out how I got blamed for Jeremy pulling his sh#t. I figured I must have said something... as I usually do... but, turns out I didn't. Someone mentioned "the kid" and I thought he was referring to The Kid... but Jeremy slammed me and moved on... so it's a moot point. If I did have anything to do with it (which I didn't) then he is a huge pussy (which he clearly isn't).
It wouldn't be that big of deal, but I don't really enjoy the threats of violence... here or via email. I really don't want to start packing heat to the crag... do email threats count as a "good cause" for getting a CCW permit?

Actually I think Jeremy is 100% correct. He should stop wasting his time here and build his own website. He has good content, he should take control of it, build it out.
I launched probably a dozen sites last year. It's not that hard. You can launch a site in a night on a dirtbag budget - as long as you got the content.

Jeremy's TRs were rad, I'm sad they're gone. He wrote them with so much psyche & awesome photos of him, his buddies, babes & beers in wild places having real adventures. His other posts were sometimes funny & yes quite redundant but when you read his TRs you knew it was just a quirk of his personality & that he was just fukin around. Something really pissed him off with burchey & it seemed like he kind of lost it, even on some people who didn't really seem deserving of the treatment. I got nothing against burchey but I find it hard to believe that there's not something more between them we aren't hearing, but not like its any of our business anyways. Jeremy brought the red rock psyche to the Taco. I don't know Jeremy or anything, other than his self-portrayal here and how some of his buddies interact with him on line.
Don't know about yall but the thing I like about his writing, and I don't mean just his trip reports is - I can relate. Here's a guy slugging away at a desk, staring out his office window at the mountains, dreaming of some (sick) project he might work that weekend. Dude posts quips, chortles, wears cheap sunglasses and knows to laugh in tense situations. Even his bored office worker posts reflect the climber trapped inside.
Then the dude gets in his car Friday night? And he actually goes out and does it. Comes back with red rock dust in all his body cavities on Sunday evening. Goes to work the next day, same as the rest of us.
That was Jeremy down there in Al-baquirky, living the dream. He was part of the Taco tribe. He gave a little bit of himself, freely, with every trip report. Lots of us took real pleasure in reading those trip reports, some of the very best because of his attitude.

Aaaaaaahhhh Jeremy!! My New Mexy connection I've yet to use. Sucks to see you go. It's things like this that keep me from putting anything of substance onto ST. Or any other site really. If you are a person that when you have your line crossed you get this upset... internet may not be a good hobby, and I mean that honestly, with all the love in the world. When I see Burchey I see a charater, like from a Rodney Dangerfield movie. I don't think one of his posts have elicited any reaction beyond a chuckle. With Wes, its almost like he is poking people to see how they reach. Imagine your best friend saying it, and its kind of funny.
I may be one of the youngest people here but I would toss my name in the hat of 'spent the most time in the community talking online.' I started in middle school with AIM, typing 6 windows at at time, then myspace, MMORPG's, and finally message boards... But he doesn't need it - it will only put him in front of people who he will feel are being dickheads. I don't know why you've always been so eager to jump on me, you seem like a nice enough person, but if you have a negative version of a person you see maybe everything they say gets taken negatively.
Jeremy's TR's were top notch, among my favorites. I don't climb mud but if one of his TR's was on the first page, I wanted to hear about it before anything else.

Locker, the way I see it, Jeremy probably just had a bad day and didn't want to deal... or maybe Burchey actually did do those things to his mom. Either way, he decided to make his own site, which is really the way to go anyway. Unfortunately the fanboy club couldn't handle his absence so they started jumping to conclusions and blaming anyone and everyone they could WITHOUT EVEN READING THE THREAD IN QUESTION. I liked Jeremy's Tr's and laughed at some of his sarcastic comments. It is hard to tell sometimes the tone of a post, but it always seemed playful, which led me to believe he was just fvcking around. This Burchey account that I had was the first ST account I've ever had. I try to always use that name (unless I get canned) so there's no mystery. I've been going up mountains for several years, rock climbing for a few, and doing moderate technical routes for slightly less than that. I'm still learning every time I go out, so in that way I'm a noob.
To me, a troll only makes digs/starts arguments. I don't think that's me at all. I try to start thoughtful threads as well as goofy OT ones that make you think. I don't stray away from arguing in a civil manner, and I kindly return whatever attitude I receive. I have a very strange sense of humor, which I think is the main reason I get into trouble online. I really don't know what set Jeremy off, but he did seem serious about not liking what I was typing. Once he started grinding me, I definitely gave it back to him. Didn't know him from Adam before that.
I have high hopes for the Taco, because in addition to having some serious climbing talent online, there are also a bunch of wackjobs with odd senses of humor, and I love the photoshop stuff making fun of other users. I really thought it would be more my speed, unlike the Whitney Portal board I got tossed from early in my mountain days - my style really doesn't jive there. Ken M. can most likely concur, I think he and I went back and forth a little bit in those days. Nice people though. Doug is a champion.

When you are new on a forum and an unknown quantity, this is not a good idea. Even if you my be right, you aren't right.
On the taco its better to introduce yourself and establish some sort of bonafides. Do you love climbing. Do you love the outdoors. If so, then express that and maybe prove it by giving a trip report and or showing appreciation for others efforts. Those who share the love tend to be forgiven their quirks faster then those who just want to ride the hate/need attention train.

Yeah, understand your frustration over some of the Supertopo posters. Through insecurity or sometimes malicious intent they just post, post post, usually about themselves, polite and humble until attacked, then vicious and whiny and then they post even more about how they a have been unfairly treated. Poison. Passive-Aggresive nonsense.
The best of the Supertopo content, gnarly trip reports (yours being some of the funnest, best and actually about hard, new routes) and historical stuff that can be found nowhere else and even the sense of community that still kind of exists here, gets buried under the endless landslide.
