Cool! It's about time for Bishop to have its own local brews. I hope they offer up some tasty ales.

Where you going to get the hops and barley etc. etc. Is someone growing those nearby on the East Side in the Owens Valley?
Nice idea!

Nice. Man I mis those days, they would give us a case of low-fills every week for free at Deschutes. I love the smell of beer on the ground in a brewery..

Joe makes great beer.
And yes, to the person who asked, people do grow hops out here.
Cragman, we're growing some up Bridgeport way. There's old hop plants growing at Bodie too. Sonora Junction has hops.

These kind of endeavours are usually marketed to, and carried on the backs of the tourist trade (Mammoth Lakes beer for example).

My brother owns a brewery here in Reno and I brewed for them for a year. Lets just say if your going to do it you are into the thing about a million.
Chin you should approach the mammoth guys and explain your need for their expansion.
Don't forget to put it in a building big enough for a stage and a canning line and some good food.

Re: Brewery in Bishop -
The 1912 topo map of the Bishop Creek area shows the "Old Brewery" location on Bishop Creek near the Buttermilks. No idea when this brewery began and ended.

Its well known in Mammoth that Mammoth Brewery beer actually sucks. They even know at the brewery as a old neighbor of mine manages the joint now and he says its the biggest complaint he hears is that their beer gives horrendous headaches, even after just one or two. He says he hears it all the time, they're trying to figure it out. And the golden pilsner they have, they don't even make it, its made by some other brewery up north or over on the west side.
Chinchen, I need a new job too, beer taster sounds good?

Dave I have only ever had the beer there once and well it was not great it was better than the food for sure.
It's hard to brew at higher elevations and well it's hard to brew good beer when you won't pay a guy with a Siebel brewing education and years of experience a real salary to make you a butt load of money so.......
I know this about brewing 500 gallons of water boiling is a scary and beautiful thing at the same time. It is also a very labor intensive job that requires the brewer and his assistant really give a sh#t about the process and the cleanliness of the facility. Without quality control and consistency with serious care to keep sh#t clean and sterile you are going to brew ass in a glass. That and you need some really good water.
Hmm this is a really good opportunity for a person willing to put up some money and do it right. Just an FYI a beer costs about .50 to make so do the math.
